About the Role

We’re seeking a Senior Manager to join our Communications team leading Executive Communications. Reporting to the Vice President Communications, you’ll work closely with our CEO and senior leaders to bring our business, product, and mission to life.

This role is responsible for creating compelling, original, executive-level content for internal and external audiences. You’ll partner with our C-Suite to translate vision, strategy, and company culture into inspiring yet concise communications. This will come to life through internal written memos and speeches that educate, engage, and excite our team ?” as well as through social posts and bylines/blogs to champion our story externally.

The Senior Manager, Executive Communications is a central partner to our leadership team, product team, and marketing team. You are a fit for this role if you are an experienced Communications strategist who understands how to build and develop a narrative ?” as well as how to engage internal and external audiences.


  • Narrative development: Partner with our senior leaders and product/planning teams to develop storylines, messaging, proof points, and soundbites to distill our story and bring it to life externally.
  • Written & visual communications: Ability to create clear, concise, and inspiring memos and speeches ?” as well as public-facing materials such as blog and social posts.
  • Refinement & analysis: Adept at taking feedback, measuring perception/engagement ?” and adjusting approach for the future. Ability to work in partnership with key functions to integrate and align messaging.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong skills cultivating relationships with key executives and collaborating to communicate their perspectives and vision through multi-dimensional touchpoints (verbal, visual, written).

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in executive communications, content, or reporting
  • Excellent written communication skills. This role will be responsible for creating messaging, memos, talking points, and blogs/social posts. You will need to create clear and concise communications in the right “voice”.
  • Strategic thought leader, brainstorm partner and sounding board. Acts as a trusted advisor to C-suite. Ability to work with confidential information.
  • Strong people and project management skills. Works cross-functionally to deliver content and accurate positioning of messaging. Excels in fast-paced, fluid environments.
  • Adept at making room at the table to create positive and inclusive environments for teammates.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or a related field
  • Demonstrated success leading executive communications programs
  • Experience working in a startup or high-growth tech company
  • Experience partnering with C-Suite Leaders

Thumbtack is a virtual-first company, meaning you can live and work from any one of our approved locations across the United States, Ontario or the Philippines. When it is safe to gather, we will begin to host in-person events on a regular basis. Remote employees will be expected to travel occasionally for these events to a Thumbtack library or offsite team-building location. Additionally, employees in the San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Toronto and Manila areas will have opt-in access to communal workspace at one of our Thumbtack libraries.

Currently, Thumbtackers can live anywhere in Ontario, Canada or the Philippines or in any of the following US states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, HI, IL, IN, KY, MD, MA, MI, MN, MO, NV, NH, NJ, NY, NC, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA. Our long term vision is to hire across all of the United States and Canada, but this expansion will take a few years.
