Product Management Payroll SaaS Canadian Payroll Agile User Stories Data Analysis Cross-functional Collaboration Backlog Management Fintech

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Product Owner - Canadian Payroll position at Employment Hero. With over 3 years of product management experience in SaaS, specifically focused on payroll and fintech solutions, I am confident in my ability to drive the payroll product vision and deliver value to your customers.

In my previous role, I successfully owned the payroll module for a leading HR platform, where I managed the entire product lifecycle from backlog grooming to cross-functional delivery. I have a strong track record of writing detailed user stories, defining acceptance criteria, and using data to inform product decisions.

I am particularly drawn to Employment Hero's mission of making employment easier and its remote-first, AI-first culture. I thrive in fast-paced environments and am skilled at influencing stakeholders and coordinating with distributed teams. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to your payroll product and help scale your offering across Canada.

Thank you for considering my application. I would welcome the chance to discuss how my experience aligns with your needs.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Can you describe your experience with Canadian payroll regulations and how you've integrated them into a SaaS product?
I have worked on payroll products for Canadian businesses, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial tax laws, remittances, and record-keeping. For example, I led the development of automated tax calculations and T4 generation, which reduced manual errors by 30%.
How do you prioritize features in a product backlog when there are conflicting stakeholder demands?
I use a combination of data analysis, user research, and business value assessment. I score features based on impact, effort, and strategic alignment, and communicate trade-offs transparently with stakeholders. I also involve the team in prioritization to ensure buy-in.
Describe a time you had to manage a complex product delivery with a globally distributed team. What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?
In my previous role, I coordinated with teams across three time zones. We used asynchronous communication tools and daily stand-ups at overlapping hours. I established clear documentation and shared ownership to ensure alignment. The key was fostering a culture of trust and accountability.
How do you use data to inform product decisions? Can you give a specific example?
I regularly analyze user behavior metrics and A/B test results. For instance, we noticed a high drop-off rate in the payroll setup flow. By analyzing user session recordings and feedback, we simplified the flow, resulting in a 20% increase in completion rate.
This role requires a high degree of autonomy. How do you ensure you stay aligned with company goals while working independently?
I set clear OKRs aligned with company strategy and regularly communicate progress with stakeholders. I also participate in cross-functional syncs and use shared dashboards to maintain visibility. Autonomy doesn't mean isolation; I proactively seek feedback and adjust priorities as needed.
