Key Skills

SEO Strategy Answer Engine Optimization Technical SEO Keyword Research Content Strategy Analytics & Reporting Pipeline Generation Schema Markup Competitive Analysis B2B Marketing

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Sr. Manager, SEO/AEO position at AssetWatch. With over eight years of experience in organic growth strategies, including building SEO programs from the ground up, I am excited about the opportunity to drive pipeline through search and answer engine optimization for a leading IoT platform.

In my previous role at a B2B SaaS company, I developed and executed a keyword architecture that increased organic traffic by 200% and directly contributed to a 30% lift in MQLs. My expertise in technical SEO, content strategy, and AEO (including schema markup and E-E-A-T) aligns perfectly with the responsibilities outlined here.

I am particularly drawn to AssetWatch's mission of preventing equipment failures through predictive maintenance. I thrive in fast-paced environments where I can own the full roadmap, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and be measured on revenue impact. I look forward to bringing my strategic and hands-on approach to build a compounding organic channel for AssetWatch.

Thank you for considering my application. I am eager to discuss how my background can contribute to your team's success and help scale the company's digital presence.

How would you approach building an SEO program from scratch for a company like AssetWatch?
I would start by conducting a full audit of current organic presence, then define target verticals and buyer personas. Next, I'd develop a keyword architecture mapped to the buyer journey, prioritize quick wins, and create a content roadmap. I'd also set up tracking for pipeline attribution and collaborate with webmaster and content teams on implementation.
Can you explain the difference between SEO and AEO and how you would integrate both?
SEO focuses on ranking in traditional search results, while AEO optimizes content to appear in AI-generated answers from platforms like ChatGPT and Google AI Overview. I would integrate them by using structured data, clear question-answer formats, and authoritative content that satisfies both algorithms. For example, targeting long-tail questions and implementing schema for featured snippets also helps with AEO.
How do you measure the success of an organic channel beyond rankings and traffic?
I focus on conversion metrics: organic-generated MQLs, pipeline value, and influenced revenue. I also track engagement metrics like time on page and bounce rate for content pieces, and use attribution modeling to connect organic touchpoints to closed deals. Regular reporting to leadership on these metrics ensures alignment with business goals.
Describe a time you had to lead a team without direct authority (e.g., working with content writers and developers).
In my last role, I had to work with a remote content team and developers to implement SEO changes. I created detailed briefs and documented processes, held weekly syncs to align priorities, and used data to show the impact of their work. By building trust and demonstrating value, we successfully launched a content hub that increased organic leads by 40%.
How do you stay updated on changes in search algorithms and AI answer surfaces?
I follow industry blogs like Search Engine Land and Moz, participate in forums like Traffic Think Tank, and run small experiments to test updates. For AEO, I monitor changes in AI model behaviors from OpenAI and Google through documentation and user forums. I also attend conferences and webinars focused on search and generative AI.

AssetWatch serves global manufacturers by powering manufacturing uptime through the delivery of an unparalleled condition monitoring experience, with a passion to care about the assets our customers care for every day. We are a devoted and capable team that includes world-renowned engineers and distinguished business leaders united by a common goal – To build the future of predictive maintenance. As we enter the next phase of rapid growth, we are seeking people to help lead the journey.

AssetWatch is an AI-driven industrial IoT condition monitoring platform that helps manufacturers protect their most critical equipment before it fails. We combine wireless vibration and temperature sensors with a 24/7 AI monitoring layer and a team of on-staff Certified Maintenance Engineers who deliver prescriptive recommendations directly to plant teams. The result: fewer unexpected failures, less unplanned downtime, and a fundamentally different relationship between manufacturers and their machines.

We’re growing fast, operating across the US and Canada, and building out the channels that will define our next phase of scale. SEO/AEO are a couple of them — and this role owns it entirely.

THE ROLE

This role exists to build the organic channel from the ground up and turn it into a compounding pipeline asset.

You’ll own the full roadmap: keyword architecture, AEO content structure, and technical SEO requirements. You’ll work directly with our Webmaster (implementation) and Content Manager (executes your briefs). You are the brain; you’ll have the builders.

This is not a “set it and check in monthly” role. You will wake up every morning looking at organic traffic, keyword movement, and conversion data — and you’ll know exactly what it means and what to do next. You’ll build and own a clear, documented path from where organic stands today to a state where it delivers consistent, qualified pipeline on a repeatable basis. Every strategy decision, content brief, and technical specification you produce is in service of that outcome.

You’ll also be our internal expert on Answer Engine Optimization — ensuring AssetWatch earns citations in AI-generated answers on Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, and Perplexity as these become primary research surfaces for reliability engineers and plant managers evaluating condition monitoring software.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Pipeline & Revenue Accountability

Own targets for organic-sourced MQLs, pipeline value, and influenced revenue — SEO/AEO is a channel, not a function, and you’ll be measured like one. Build and maintain a living roadmap that shows a clear, sequenced path from current organic baseline to consistent pipeline contribution. Monthly performance reporting and quarterly roadmap updates to the Director of Demand Generation and CRO — with attribution that connects rankings and clicks to revenue, not just impressions.

Keyword Architecture & Search Strategy

Full keyword architecture across all five target verticals and AssetWatch’s core product pillars — mapped to buyer stage, search intent, and conversion potential, not just volume. Voice of search: tracking how reliability engineers, plant managers, and maintenance managers research predictive maintenance and condition monitoring — and translating that into content that captures demand at the moment of intent. Competitive displacement strategy — particularly against key competitors and emerging condition monitoring entrants who are actively investing in search.

AEO / Generative Engine Optimization

Schema markup requirements, question-answer content frameworks, and E-E-A-T build plan so AssetWatch appears authoritatively in AI-generated answers. AI citation monitoring across Google AI Overview, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and emerging answer surfaces — tracking where we appear, where we don’t, and closing the gaps. Structured content briefs that train the Content Manager to produce AEO-optimized assets, not just traditional SEO pages.

Technical SEO

Technical SEO specifications handed to the Webmaster: Core Web Vitals targets, schema implementation, crawl/indexing health, internal link architecture, and JavaScript rendering requirements. Ongoing technical audit cadence — you identify the issues, prioritize by pipeline impact, and brief the fix. Crawl budget management, log file analysis, and indexing health monitoring as routine practice, not one-time projects.

Content Strategy & Briefing

Keyword-to-content mapping across the full funnel: awareness content that earns authority, consideration content that captures evaluators, and bottom-funnel content that converts. Detailed content briefs for the Content Manager — topic, target keyword cluster, search intent, required schema, internal linking requirements, and conversion CTA. Content performance review cadence: what’s ranking, what’s converting, what needs to be updated or consolidated.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Required

5+ years in an in-house or hybrid SEO role at a B2B SaaS, industrial tech, or manufacturing-adjacent company. Demonstrated obsession with performance data — you have a daily routine around Search Console, rankings, and organic conversion metrics and you don’t need to be reminded to check them. Proven record of connecting search performance to pipeline — you can show the funnel from keyword to closed deal, not just keyword to click. Deep technical SEO fluency: schema markup, Core Web Vitals, crawl budget, log file analysis, JavaScript rendering issues. Documented keyword research results expressed in business terms: pipeline influenced, demo requests generated, organic CAC vs. paid. Familiarity with AEO / GEO — you’ve been paying attention to how AI search is reshaping how B2B buyers discover and shortlist vendors, and you have a point of view on how to win there. Strong analytical skills — comfortable in Google Search Console, SEMrush or Ahrefs, GA4, and Salesforce or HubSpot attribution.

Preferred

Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or IIoT markets — you understand what a reliability engineer cares about and how they buy. Experience briefing and managing content writers to SEO standards that produce pipeline, not just traffic. Familiarity with HubSpot CMS, Salesforce, and multi-touch attribution models. Experience building search from scratch at a company in a market-creation or category-definition phase — you know what it’s like to be first and you see that as an advantage.

YOU’LL THRIVE HERE IF…

Your first move in the morning is pulling Search Console and your rank tracker — not because someone asked you to, but because you need to know. You measure your own success in pipeline and revenue influence, not page-one rankings. You can draw a straight line from a content brief to a closed deal and explain every step. You like owning the whole problem, not just executing a task list someone else wrote. You’re comfortable telling leadership “the strategy needs to change” with data to back it. You think in systems — keyword clusters, content pillars, authority flywheel — not one-off pages. You’re energized by a market that is still being defined and see that as a first-mover advantage, not a lack of playbook.
