Public Affairs Government Relations Strategic Communications Policy Advocacy Stakeholder Engagement Campaign Management Coalition Building Cross-functional Collaboration Tech Policy International Relations

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am excited to apply for the Public Affairs Manager position at Stripe. With over 3 years of experience in public policy and advocacy, I have successfully led campaigns and built coalitions to advance policy objectives. My background includes drafting strategic messaging and managing stakeholder relationships across multiple jurisdictions.

I am particularly drawn to Stripe's mission of increasing the GDP of the internet and would bring a collaborative, detail-oriented approach to support your global public affairs efforts. I am confident that my skills in campaign execution and cross-functional coordination align well with the requirements of this role.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute to Stripe's impactful work.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Describe a successful advocacy campaign you led or contributed significantly to. What was your role, and what were the outcomes?
I led a campaign to influence data privacy legislation in my country. My role involved building a coalition of industry partners, drafting position papers, and organizing meetings with legislators. The outcome was a more business-friendly amendment that balanced privacy and innovation, which passed in committee.
How would you adapt a global messaging strategy for a local market in the EU?
I would first research local political and cultural nuances, then tailor the messaging to resonate with regional stakeholders. For example, emphasizing local economic benefits and aligning with EU digital priorities. I'd also translate materials and engage local influencers to amplify the message.
Given Stripe's global reach, how do you prioritize issues across different regions?
I would align with the company's strategic objectives and assess the regulatory landscape, business impact, and stakeholder urgency. Using a matrix of impact and feasibility, I'd focus on high-impact, actionable issues while monitoring others for future action.
How do you handle a situation where a key stakeholder disagrees with your policy position?
I would seek to understand their concerns through dialogue, find common ground, and identify potential compromises. If needed, I'd present data and case studies to demonstrate the benefits of our position, while maintaining respectful engagement.
Describe your experience using performance metrics to measure public affairs activities.
In my previous role, I tracked media mentions, policy changes, and stakeholder meetings. I used tools like Cision and Excel to report quarterly on engagement outcomes and adjusted strategies based on what was working, such as increasing event attendance by 20% through targeted outreach.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €102,100 – €153,100. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
