What design considerations are important when building a Kubernetes operator for database infrastructure? The operator should implement declarative, idempotent reconciliation and handle partial failures safely. Important concerns include safe upgrades, backup and restore workflows, resource sizing, topology-aware placement, status reporting, finalizers, validation, and rate-limited retries. I would also ensure that operational actions are observable and that the operator avoids unsafe automated changes during degraded conditions. How would you improve a metrics pipeline that supports capacity recommendations for a database service? I would first define the decisions the recommendations must support, such as compute sizing, storage growth, or hot-partition detection. Then I would validate metric completeness, cardinality, sampling, retention, and aggregation accuracy before building models or heuristics. Recommendations should include confidence, explainable inputs, guardrails, and feedback loops that compare predicted demand with actual utilization. How do you choose between Go, C++, and Java for a production infrastructure component? I choose based on latency and resource requirements, existing ecosystem and team expertise, operational tooling, and integration needs. Go is often effective for cloud services and Kubernetes controllers because of its concurrency model and ecosystem; C++ may be appropriate for performance-critical database components; and Java can be strong where mature JVM libraries and service frameworks are advantageous.
