I would design it with investigators early, instrument usage, and automate repetitive enrichment tasks while preserving human review for consequential decisions.

How would you identify and respond to a new scam campaign targeting wallet users?

I would first establish a rapid triage process using reports, on-chain activity, product telemetry, and support signals to identify common wallet addresses, applications, transaction patterns, and user journeys. I would deploy layered mitigations such as warnings, transaction simulation or confirmation changes, address labeling, rate limits, and blocks where policy and confidence justify them. After containment, I would backfill detection logic, evaluate missed and false-positive cases, document the incident, and share product and operational learnings with stakeholders.

How do you lead technically when building a new engineering function with ambiguous requirements?

I translate the broad mission into measurable risks, prioritized capabilities, and an incremental technical roadmap. I align early with Product, Security, Compliance, Operations, and Support on ownership boundaries, service-level expectations, and decision principles, then deliver foundational systems that unlock subsequent work. Responsibilities

As a Trust, Risk & Safety Engineer at Phantom, you’ll build the systems that safeguard our users, products, and platform. Working across the stack, you’ll detect and prevent abuse, assess emerging risks, reduce financial loss, and equip internal teams with the tools and intelligence needed to respond quickly and effectively. Fraud prevention: Build real-time risk controls and decisioning systems for products such as ACH, debit cards, onramps, off-ramps, and other money movement experiences.

Scam and abuse detection: Develop signals, models, and product interventions that identify malicious wallets, transactions, applications, and user behavior.

Identity and compliance infrastructure: Build scalable KYC, sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, and audit systems.

Data and intelligence: Create pipelines and tools that combine on-chain activity, product data, and third-party signals into actionable risk insights.

The target base salary for this role will range between $200,000 to $250,000 with the addition of equity and benefits. This is determined by a few factors including your skillset, prior relevant experience, quality of interviews and market factors (such as location) at the point in time of offer.
