What are the most important considerations when evaluating ICFR in a productized audit workflow? The workflow must distinguish control design from operating effectiveness and capture the population, selected samples, procedures performed, evidence obtained, exceptions, conclusions, and reviewer sign-off. It should support linkage between risks, controls, assertions, and testing results. The design also needs flexibility for differing client environments while maintaining a consistent, defensible documentation standard. How would you handle disagreement between audit-firm users and product or engineering teams about a workflow design? I would make the underlying user need, professional standard, and operational trade-offs explicit. I would use concrete audit scenarios and evidence requirements to clarify what is mandatory versus a legacy preference, then work toward a solution that is usable, scalable, and appropriately controlled. If necessary, I would propose a phased approach with validation from pilot users. How do you identify audit processes that are good candidates for AI augmentation? I look for work that is repetitive, document-intensive, rules-guided, and currently requires substantial manual searching, extraction, comparison, or summarization. I would evaluate potential value, data availability, error consequences, reviewer needs, and the ability to create a reliable audit trail. Many of the workflows that have defined the profession for decades are being rebuilt from the ground up. As an Audit Innovation Lead, you’ll join a small, specialized team working at the intersection of audit expertise, product development, and AI. While you won’t be performing audits for clients in this role, you will work closely with audit professionals and Fieldguide’s engineering team to design and build the next generation of audit workflows. What You’ll Do * Help design the AI-powered workflows that will define the future of audit and assurance. * Partner closely with engineering, product, and design teams to translate real-world audit processes into scalable product capabilities. * Work directly with audit firms using Fieldguide to understand their workflows, pain points, and opportunities for automation. * Identify edge cases, controls, and quality requirements to ensure the product meets the standards required for professional services workflows. * Collaborate with our ML team to develop AI agent capabilities that assist with tasks such as document analysis, testing procedures, and evidence evaluation. * Help rethink long-standing audit processes and shape how AI can augment professional judgment. Who You Are * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting + CPA license or Master’s degree in Accounting. * 8-10+ years of experience in audit at a leading public accounting firm at the Senior Manager level or above. * Experience auditing financial statements end-to-end, including designing and executing audit workpapers across financial statement areas. * Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation. * Experience performing financial statement audits end-to-end, including planning and risk assessment, evaluating internal controls (ICFR), executing substantive testing across key balance sheet and income statement areas, and reviewing financial statements and disclosures. * Experience working across multiple clients and industries. * Exceptional attention to detail and a high bar for accuracy. * Strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex accounting concepts into clear product requirements. * Strong prioritization skills and the ability to focus on the highest-impact work.
