This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with teams across Life360 to support a high-growth phase for the Life360 family of consumer mobile software applications and hardware devices, including Tile and Pet GPS. In this position, you will be the first dedicated IP counsel at Life360 and help shape IP strategy for our category-leading consumer business. This position offers the opportunity to apply and further develop your skills across a variety of business needs. You will be the in-house attorney responsible for managing Life360’s patent and trademark portfolios, including directing outside legal service providers, leading new IP initiatives, and providing advice on open source. In addition, you will support the commercial legal team by negotiating and drafting commercial agreements that pertain to the development and licensing of intellectual property, and you will support the corporate development team with IP M&A review and analysis as needed. Also, you will support the social media and creative team by reviewing promotional materials for compliance. The position offers the opportunity to lead IP protection, to work on sophisticated commercial agreements, and to advise on strategic IP matters in a collaborative legal environment. You will report to the Deputy General Counsel for Commercial, Litigation & IP, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Product, Privacy, Engineering, and Marketing. The US-based salary range for this position is $130k to $200k annually. We take into consideration an individual’s background, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience in determining final salary. Base pay may also vary based on geographic location, with US work locations falling into one of three geographic tiers. Total compensation is inclusive of equity compensation in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits. ### What You’ll Do * Manage and develop the patent portfolio, including: working with outside counsel and legal services providers to respond to office actions; helping with freedom-to-operate/product clearance analysis; and working with internal clients to find appropriate inventions for patent applications. * Manage and develop the trademark portfolio, including: working with outside counsel and legal services providers to support trademark prosecution and enforcement efforts; working with internal clients to identify key jurisdictions for protections; and working with marketing on knock-out checks. * Advise clients and business partners on transactional intellectual property matters related to trademarks, patents, trade secrets, licensing, and portfolio strategy. * Draft, review, and negotiate agreements involving the use, transfer, protection, development, and commercialization of intellectual property assets. * Provide legal guidance on open source licenses. * Provide advice on trademark and patent issues arising in commercial transactions, product development, and business initiatives. * Review social media marketing for IP and consumer protection compliance. * Support due diligence efforts for corporate transactions by identifying intellectual property risks, ownership considerations, and compliance concerns. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align legal recommendations with business objectives while protecting valuable IP rights. * Monitor legal developments affecting patent and trademark transactions and apply those insights to client counseling and contract strategy. ### What We’re Looking For * J.D. from an accredited US law school and membership in good standing in at least one state bar; undergraduate degree in a technical discipline like computer science is a plus. * At least 5 years of legal experience at a national or regional law firm with a strong focus on patent prosecution for consumer software and hardware technology. Additional experience as in-house counsel at a consumer tech company is a plus.
