I would first gather failure logs, traces, screenshots, environment details, and timing patterns to determine whether the issue is in the test, application, data, infrastructure, or dependency. I would reproduce it with controlled retries and instrumentation, isolate variables, identify the root cause, and then implement a durable correction rather than masking it with arbitrary waits or retries. How do you measure whether a test automation program is effective? I use a balanced set of indicators, including critical-flow coverage, defect escape rate, pipeline duration, flaky-test rate, time to detect and diagnose failures, and test-maintenance effort. I also review whether the suite provides actionable feedback and is preventing meaningful regressions, not simply increasing test counts. How would you mentor junior SDETs while maintaining delivery velocity? I would pair on design and debugging work, provide focused code reviews with clear reasoning, and create reusable examples and standards for frameworks, test data, and CI integration. You will architect and optimize automation frameworks, lead test strategy for complex systems, and regularly collaborate across teams to deliver reliable and high-quality releases. Key qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience * 5+ years of experience in software development and test automation * Advanced proficiency in multiple programming languages and test automation frameworks * Deep experience designing, building, and maintaining automation frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, RestAssured) * Strong expertise in API, UI, and integration testing * Proficient in CI/CD pipeline integration and optimization * Skilled in test strategy development, risk analysis, and test architecture * Advanced debugging, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis * Solid understanding of database systems and advanced SQL * Experience with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, NewRelic) * Excellent cross-functional communication and mentorship skills * Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to collaborate across functions ### Compensation Flex takes a market-based approach to pay, and compensation may vary depending on your primary work location. Work locations are categorized into one of three tiers based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area.
