This reduces configuration drift, speeds recovery, and makes infrastructure changes safer to understand and roll back. What would you automate with AI agents in an SRE or platform engineering environment? I would prioritize repetitive, well-bounded work such as incident triage summaries, alert enrichment, runbook retrieval, log and trace correlation, post-incident draft generation, and routine maintenance checks. Each automation should have clear permissions, observable actions, human approval for high-risk changes, and measurable outcomes such as reduced mean time to detect or resolve. I would begin with low-risk workflows and iteratively improve them using feedback from engineers. How do you balance urgent operational work with longer-term reliability improvements? I use severity-based incident processes to address immediate customer impact, while capturing follow-up actions as prioritized reliability work. I communicate tradeoffs clearly, reserve capacity for technical debt and preventive initiatives, and use metrics such as incident frequency, error-budget consumption, toil, and recurring alert patterns to justify investments.
