Retries can reduce noise, but I treat recurring retries as defects to investigate rather than a permanent solution. How would you test concurrency and edge cases in a backend processing system? I would identify shared resources, idempotency requirements, race conditions, rate limits, and expected behavior under duplicate or out-of-order events. I would create parallel test scenarios with controlled data, validate database state and API responses, and use monitoring or logs to confirm processing behavior. Edge coverage would include malformed inputs, boundary values, timeouts, partial failures, and recovery paths. How do you decide which tests should run on every pull request versus on a scheduled basis? Every pull request should run fast, reliable tests that provide immediate confidence, such as unit tests, critical API checks, linting, and a small smoke suite. Broader regression, cross-browser, performance, and large data-volume tests can run nightly or before releases when they require more time or infrastructure. I review failure history and business risk regularly to adjust the split. Describe how you communicate a high-severity defect to engineering and product stakeholders. I communicate the impact first, including affected users, environments, frequency, and release risk. I provide concise reproduction steps, expected and actual behavior, supporting evidence, and relevant logs or test data. I then coordinate on priority, verify the fix in the appropriate environment, and ensure regression coverage is added so the issue does not recur. Opportunity details ## About this role. Learn more about our engineering culture here: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXM2NrkhKZc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXM2NrkhKZc) StackAdapt is a remote-first company, we are open to candidates located anywhere in Canada for this position. ### What You’ll Be Doing: * Participate in the development of in-house automated and functional test scripts and tooling that address areas such as functional, system, API, integration, UI and regression testing * Work collaboratively with Platform, Product, DevOps, and other teams in order to deploy and run automated tests on test environments with CI/CD * Provide timely test result feedback to the Platform Team, the QA team and other relevant stakeholders * Participate in technical planning, code review and architectural decision-making ### What You’ll Bring to the Table: * 2+ years of professional, hands-on test automation experience with API & UI test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Mocha, Jest or Junit * Fluency in at least one of Javascript, Typescript, Python, or Java * Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Github Actions, CircleCI * Strong understanding of scalable system design for web-based APIs and backend processing systems * In-depth understanding of QA methodologies in a software company with short release cycles * Experience writing test cases that cover edge/negative cases, compatibility, and concurrency tests in test case management tools like TestRail * Experience working with relational databases * Hands-on experience with SQL and ability to query for large data sets The compensation range listed for this role reflects the expected base salary for candidates located in the posting country based on a global rate. It is informed by market data and the approved budget for this position. StackAdapt maintains different compensation ranges for roles across other countries and regions, and final offers will be aligned to the candidate’s current location.
