I would also monitor saturation signals such as queue depth, consumer lag, error rates, dependency latency, and resource utilization. How do you approach backward compatibility when evolving an API or event schema used by multiple teams? I prefer additive changes first, such as optional fields and version-tolerant consumers, while maintaining old behavior during a documented deprecation period. I would use contract tests and compatibility checks in CI, coordinate rollout with dependent teams, and monitor adoption before removing deprecated fields. For breaking changes, I would version the interface and provide a clear migration path. How would you mentor engineers while maintaining high delivery and operational standards? I would make expectations explicit through design reviews, pairing, actionable code-review feedback, and well-maintained runbooks. I would give engineers meaningful ownership while helping them understand trade-offs in reliability, testing, and operability. To take our platform to the next level, we’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Verification Platform team. This team owns the workflow orchestration engine and the automated verification decisioning pipeline that powers Veriff’s core product — and that other product teams across Identity, Fraud, and End User Platform build on top of. Your work will directly determine the reliability, scalability, and capabilities of the flows that thousands of people go through every day. You’ll help us protect honest people online by: * Designing, building, and operating VP’s backend services, including the orchestration engine and the automated decisioning pipeline, with a strong focus on reliability, scalability, and maintainability * Delivering key orchestration features such as multi-method flow execution, branching and fallback logic, and webhook integrations * Improving the resilience of production-critical systems — backpressure and idempotency handling, backwards-compatibility testing, SPOF elimination, and end-to-end monitoring * Participating in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems to ensure our most critical flows stay healthy * Driving engineering quality through code reviews, CI practices, runbook documentation, and mentoring teammates You are the right future Veriffian for the job if you have: * 5+ years of experience building large-scale backend applications with Python, including event-driven and async architectures with message queues (e.g. SQS or similar) * Proven ownership of production-critical services — you understand what it means to be on-call and take reliability seriously * Deep experience designing for resilience in distributed systems: idempotency, backpressure, retries, backwards compatibility * Strong understanding of modular design approaches and SOLID principles * Hands-on experience building scalable, maintainable APIs * Proficiency in a range of testing strategies that ensure robust and reliable software * Solid understanding of relational database fundamentals * Familiarity with structured logging and observability practices * Strong communication skills — you can clearly articulate technical ideas to engineers and non-engineers alike You’re an especially awesome match if you have: * Experience with workflow or orchestration engines, event-driven systems, Kubernetes, or identity verification domain knowledge.
