Effective controls combine risk-based onboarding, blockchain and transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, escalation governance, and ongoing review. How do you keep your EDD decisions aligned with changing global requirements? I monitor FATF publications, local regulatory updates, enforcement actions, internal policy changes, and industry guidance. I assess the operational impact, update review approaches or documentation as needed, and share practical guidance with relevant teams. Describe how you would handle an escalation from a first-line team involving complex beneficial ownership. I would validate the ownership chain using reliable corporate records and independent sources, identify ultimate beneficial owners and control persons, and assess any PEP, sanctions, or adverse-media exposure. I would document unresolved gaps, request proportionate evidence, determine the risk rating, and provide a clear, policy-based recommendation to the relevant decision-maker.
