Grammarly is excited to offer a remote-first hybrid working model. Team members can work primarily remotely in the United States, Canada, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, or Portugal. Conditions permitting, teams will meet in person a few weeks every quarter at one of Grammarly’s hubs in San Francisco, Kyiv, New York, Vancouver, and Berlin, or in a workspace in Kraków.

We believe this balanced, flexible approach gives our team members the best of both worlds: plenty of focus time along with in-person collaboration that fosters trust, unlocks creativity, and further fuels innovation.

Grammarly team members in this role are required to live within a daily commutable distance to Berlin. Grammarly may provide relocation assistance.

The opportunity

Every day, tens of millions of people and 50,000 professional teams rely on Grammarly’s AI-enabled communication assistance to help them communicate confidently and achieve their goals. Our team members have the autonomy to take on exciting challenges in pursuit of our mission to improve lives by improving communication. Together, we’re building on more than a decade of steady growth and profitability. We’re defining the communication assistance category for individuals, enterprises, and developers with tailored service offerings: Grammarly Premium, Grammarly Business, Grammarly for Education, and Grammarly for Developers. All of this begins with our team collaborating in an inclusive, values-driven, and learning-oriented environment.

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a People Operations Manager to join our People team. The People Operations Manager is responsible for creating the supportive infrastructure of data, systems, and processes to lead People Operations projects and implementation for the Grammarly Berlin hub. This role will be responsible for shaping and aligning Grammarly’s processes and policies to our EAGER values and culture in order to support our outstanding talent. The People Operations Manager will build solutions to scale, creating the infrastructure to support Grammarly’s expanding People team. Core to the role is providing help, knowledge, and problem-solving to team member lifecycle changes, delivering outstanding service, and providing seamless employee experiences. This role will support the People team in North America, providing exposure to international HR practices.

Your impact

As Grammarly continues to grow quickly, there is a huge opportunity to revisit the systems, processes, and policies currently in place to ensure they will work effectively at scale. As People Operations Manager, you will review and update systems to support future growth. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to implement the automation that will allow People Operations to stay effective, reduce routine manual work, and support the necessary level of reporting for certifications and compliance.

You’ll have an exciting opportunity to shape our People programs infrastructure and build programs to scale. You’ll harness your foundation in a range of People Operations focus areas (including compensation, benefits, mobility, and systems) and experience in managing effective People Operations teams.

In this role, you will:

  • Analyze and update existing processes, policies, and systems to ensure they are up-to-date, compliant, and designed in a way to support Grammarly’s high growth.
  • Collaborate with the IT, Government Risk and Compliance, Workplace Experience, Finance, Legal, and Security teams to ensure all critical processes are running smoothly.
  • Identify areas for automation and implement processes that will require minimal manual work.
  • Prioritize People Operations systems, tools, policies, and compliance for 2023.
  • Take ownership with clear areas of roles and responsibilities in major areas like onboarding, offboarding, benefits, contractors, payroll, compliance, and more.
  • Manage and coach two direct reports; grow the People Operations team in Europe and set them up for success.

We’re looking for someone who

  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is able to collaborate in person in Berlin 4 weeks per quarter.
  • Is comfortable acquiring data from multiple sources, carrying out data analysis, and communicating findings.
  • Identifies and creates processes, optimizes efficient workflows, and focuses on automation to reduce manual work where possible.
  • Analyzes, implements, and improves systems, including HRIS (Workday), survey tools, performance management tools, and more.
  • Displays strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail.
  • Has experience as a system admin for HRIS and/or HR process systems, preferably Workday.
  • Understands how to analyze organizational risk with applicable laws and policies.
  • Brings operational knowledge of employee lifecycle touchpoints, specifically onboarding and offboarding.
  • Has experience researching, drafting, and implementing HR policy, including communicating with legal counsel and team members.
  • Has excellent English and solid German at the Intermediate level of higher.
