Most of us have an itch to be creative — to make art, play music, shoot photos, write stories, build things, and find ways to express ourselves — but most of us leave our creativity behind, struggling to find the time and energy for these pursuits during our normal lives. Most people don’t have access to the community of in-person classes. Most people don’t finish typical online courses. Monthly is creating a new kind of learning experience: We make classes that people finish and love that can be taken from anywhere, by anyone, together.

About this Role

What will you do at Monthly in this Community Manager role?

  • Build bridges between Monthly and our students. Ideate and execute on initiatives that help transform students’ experience on Monthly. These initiatives might include:
    • Defining, organizing and running a TA program for Monthly classes
    • Discovering and celebrating the best student work and the most inspirational student journeys
    • Managing and curating student testimonials
  • Deeply understand our students through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research, measuring things like NPS, completion rate, and more. Educate the rest of our team on your findings.
  • Conduct surveys and student interviews to proactively gather feedback on the student experience.
  • Synthesize student feedback into actionable insights for our curriculum development and product teams. Advocate within Monthly for new product features and for improved classes, projects, and videos that students will love.
  • Monitor what current and former Monthly students say about our platform and classes and act as a voice for Monthly in the digital community.
  • Share metrics, both quantitative and qualitative, on the health of Monthly student communities and classes across our company internally.
  • Work closely with our customer support team to deal with issues that arise between students in the classroom.

You might be a fit for this role if:

  • You have prior experience building and connecting digital communities.
  • You have prior experience conducting user research.
  • You’re passionate about the Monthly mission — you’ll be our advocate and voice at a personal level, so it’s important to heavily empathize with Monthly students and alumni.
  • You strive for perfection. You treat each community member like they’re the most important person in the room.
  • You love writing and are good at it. You write clearly and simply, even when dealing with complex ideas. You are a storyteller.
  • You’re an observer. You’re good at finding patterns and identifying systems. You can form your own theories of how things work. You’re good at finding better ways of doing things, even if your way is unconventional.
  • You’re a self-starter and can work independently with little oversight, leveraging resources across different teams to define, build, and kickstart initiatives.
  • You have an eclectic set of interests and can strongly empathize with the learning process when tackling new topics.
  • Bonus: You’ve taken at least one Monthly class.
