GitHub is looking for a Legal Operations Manager to join our innovative, tech savvy legal team. This role will sit within our small, but mighty, Legal Operations Virtual Team (vTeam), which is part of GitHub’s Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (“CELA”) team. CELA has been growing rapidly to scale with the business, and we’re looking for agile, collaborative, innovative professionals to help drive our high-performing culture in an environment deeply focused on diversity, inclusion, and belonging.  The right candidate will possess a creative entrepreneurial mind, willingness to learn and grow, a keen attention to detail; a self-starter and strong collaborator who can operate nimbly in a fast-paced environment, managing a myriad of legal support projects with skill, poise, and enthusiasm. Tech skills are also an absolute must since this role will work with GitHub tools to collaborate, ship, and innovate. . You will provide critical support for the entire CELA team, with a focus on strategic and operational initiatives to improve team efficiencies.  You will also have the opportunity to take on new and varied roles as we continue to scale and grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Process Improvement: Analyze existing processes for continuous improvements.  Work with departmental personnel to develop process improvements that promote cost reductions and other identified inefficiencies.
  • Metrics & Analytics: Report on key operational metrics for the CELA team that will better assist the leadership team with decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the Team Lead to build Objectives and Key Results (“OKRs”) for the Legal Operations team.
  • Team Enablement: Identify and implement tools and technologies to streamline new or existing practices, as well as managing design, rollout, and training for new systems.
  • Outside Counsel Management: Work closely with Team Lead to select and manage outside law firms.  Provide ongoing support with respect to alternative fee arrangements, budgets, compliance with billing guidelines, and the overall partnership between vendors and legal operations to manage outside counsel usage and spend.
  • Budgeting: Oversee budget and reporting requirements using our e-billing system. Leverage best practices across the CELA functions, and collaborate closely with other business lines to develop and produce reporting that drives increased financial visibility and accountability.
  • General Operations: Collaborate with cross-functional teams including the Office of the COO, Finance, Procurement, and HR, as well as various other business units.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of strong legal operations experience.
  • Commitment to professionalism and personal growth, with a strong sense of collaboration and teamwork as a path to success.
  • Excellent sense of humor.
  • Flexibility in a face-paced and remote/decentralized work environment.
  • Ability to scale and grow within the organization.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize, manage and execute on numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, judgment, and diplomacy.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous legal operations experience in a corporate legal department.
  • A basic understanding of software coding or comfort with new technology adoption.
  • Experience within a software start-up and/or enterprise software company. IT and systems experience and skills is a must.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial approach to recognizing needs, solving problems, and anticipating issues, and problem solving.
  • Understanding of financial management principles, preferably have previously worked with an e-billing system.
  • Experience with developing metrics and KPIs.
