About Autodesk

Changing how the world is designed and made.

Autodesk is known around the world for creating tools that help people to make all kinds of things, from machine parts to buildings to movies to video games, and more. If there’s something to be made, Autodesk has a tool to help you make it. In Autodesk Construction Solutions, we make the tools that enable construction professionals to manage the immensely complex process of designing and building their projects. And by facilitating this process our software helps the industry to build the future of the cities and towns we live in while saving time and money, avoiding repeated work, building more sustainably, and reducing wasted materials — which can amount to 30% of the material originally delivered to the job site!

You’ll be joining the Markups team, which builds the 2D and 3D visualization tools that our users employ to annotate, draw on, and highlight their plan documents. We draw pictures! We also have the satisfaction of exposing our internal APIs to other teams to help them visualize their features. We love that our work involves interesting technical problems while producing visual output that gives us (and our users) the pleasure of interacting with the wonderful tools we’ve developed. One of the best aspects of working on the Markups team is that most of our markup’s code is shared in a Kotlin Multiplatform library that ensures consistency across our platforms. Our engineers enjoy working this way, as it gives everyone the chance to collaborate with engineers on other platforms, and you can help ship features onto platforms you’re not familiar with.
We’re a multi-discipline, remote team of about 20 people spread across the US & Canada. We have Web, iOS, Android, and backend engineers, as well as Product Leads, Design leads, and QA engineers. And because of the size and impact of our team, there are many growth and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • This role is Web-focused but also includes developing cross-platform markups features in our shared Kotlin library. You’ll split your time between developing our front-end React/Redux application and contributing to that library. (If you don’t know Kotlin yet, that’s okay! Many of us on the team only learned it after we joined, and we find engineers pick it up quickly and really enjoy using it.)
  • You’ll lead development of some features, which will involve breaking them down into milestones and individual tasks for you and other engineers to tackle and collaborating with Product and Design to settle on specs and a release timeline
  • We’d love for you to help us imagine how our Web architecture and tooling could grow so that we can expand our markups features into other products already, Web is our strongest and most-used platform, but there’s more we can do!

Minimum Qualifications

  • You’ll likely have at least 4 years of experience, though ultimately, we’re simply looking for someone who is established on Web and has evidence of their success in developing end-user applications on Web
  • You love the Web ecosystem and keep aware of useful and interesting tools and topics related to Web development
  • Most importantly, we seek teammates who are empathetic toward and respect one another. We’ve built a culture of sharing designs and inviting feedback, while also trusting each other’s skills and efforts

Preferred Qualifications

  • System design experience would be very beneficial, as there’s a good amount of data flow to manage between the backend, client app, and Kotlin library
  • Although graphics experience is not required, if you have some (2D or 3D) let us know! We’d love to strengthen the performance and architecture of our graphical library
  • We use TypeScript, React, Redux, and Kotlin on our team, so experience with any of these would be beneficial. But we’re sure you can learn these technologies if they’re new to you
