Do you enjoy “the maths?” Are you a Budgetary Baller? School of Motion is looking to add a Senior Accountant (with CPA) to our team. In this position, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency of day-to-day accounting and finances, including bookkeeping, account reconciliation, payroll, and more. This is a position for an experienced and talented individual, so be honest about your skills.

The right candidate will thrive in a creative and fast-paced environment, using their own internet creativity to solve problems. This position will report to the Director of Finance and People Ops.

You should:

  • Understand generally accepted accounting practices and procedures
  • Have 5-10+ years of experience in finance and/or accounting
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, (CPA or advanced degree desired)
  • Have experience with SaaS accounting methodologies
  • Be confident with your Excel skillset (Intermediate or Above)
  • Be experienced with Deferred Revenue Accounting entries and calculations
  • Have a VERY strong attention to detail
  • Have experience working in a fully distributed team (a huge plus, but not required)
  • Have experience in a start up
  • Have experience creating quarterly forecasting and budgets in conjunction with other teams
  • Be proactive in problem solving, and comfortable with team members asking for help/clarification
  • We use digital tools such as Slack, Zoom, Bill.com, and Airtable. In general, you should be comfortable learning new apps.

You can expect to:

  • Be responsible for AP/AR, including communication with SOM’s artists and 3rd Party vendors
  • Take ownership of the Chart of Accounts in Quickbooks Online
  • Evaluate and perform balance sheet reconciliations that are complete, accurate, and fully supported by appropriate evidence in compliance with U.S. GAAP and other accounting regulations.
  • Analyze and review month-end close activated for discrepancies, coding errors, and other issues that should be research and resolved, or brought to management’s attention. This includes preparation, review, upload, and posting of journal entries.
  • Coordination across teams to ensure accurate categorization of all expenses
  • Reconcile all of SOM’s bank accounts monthly
  • Assist Director with Cash Flow Analyses, Forecasting, Budgets, and general financial health reports
  • Assist Director with quarterly and annual department budgets and adherence to budgets
  • Work with CPA to properly pay quarterly taxes and process year-end tax filings
  • Assist Director with state registration and tax notices and filings
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
