As the Controller, you will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and oversee all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. You will lead the day-to-day finance operations of the company. Additionally, you will provide comprehensive financial updates to the CEO, COO, and CFO by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting accurate metrics. You will oversee and support the accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity. You may work on special projects assigned by the CEO, COO, and CFO.

The successful candidate will work remotely; however, minimal travel may be required.

You will:

  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Issue customer invoices, maintain A/R aging, collection, and A/R related requests and correspondence.
  • Analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; communicate monthly financial statements to keep senior leadership abreast of the company’s financial status.
  • Prepare assigned balance sheet accounts reconciliation and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Reconcile and close out month end to produce monthly financial statements for senior management.
  • In conjunction with CFO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards every month. Provide support for CFO in the annual planning process.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize the protection of company financial assets, policies, and procedures.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures consistent with GAAP.
  • Develop pro forma projections for new business development opportunities.
  • Develop and document financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Guide financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Protect assets by developing, tracking, and implementing internal controls.
  • Monitor budgeting goals relative to actual performance.
  • Assist in developing and supporting short- and long-term operational strategies of the company.
  • Maximize payroll efficiency.

What You Need to Get the Job Done

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required. CPA or CMA preferred
  • Candidates with job experience in online program management, online education, technology, technology-enabled services, or SaaS preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years progressive work experience in accounting month-end close process, including journal entries
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
  • Experience in accounting software, account reconciliation, and variance analysis
  • Proficiency in accounting and spreadsheet software, preferably Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of detailed financial analysis
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems
  • Extensive experience with GAAP
  • Solid general ledger knowledge – experience with Quickbooks preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a history of positive results achieved collaboratively
  • Demonstrated strength and experience in team-building and maintaining business relationships
