We are the Calc Design team, regrouping Excel, Planner and Office Platform. We belong to the Office Apps and Growth Studio, helping to build seamless Office app experiences. We believe that a great suite comes from a depth of understanding specific customer needs across apps and finding commonalities across them.

The Office Apps and Growth Studio is the heart and soul of Microsoft productivity applications: from the touchstone products Word, Excel and PowerPoint to Inking, Voice, Touch, Editor, Office Platforms and much more. We are reimagining the user experiences at the core of modern productivity: writing, collaborating, presenting, finding and reusing content, analyzing data and managing all the tasks in between.

We’re a team of designers who are excited about growing consumer usage and unlocking customer value. We partner with dedicated program managers, engineers, producers, and researchers to understand customer feedback, solve technological challenges, and define release dates.

In our team, we believe in the power of inclusion, diversity of ideas, skills, and background, and the joy of solving challenging problems. We strive for a collaborative culture where everyone can flourish and innovate, including in our own approaches to the ever-changing global climate. While the current world situation has us working remotely, we normally work in large, modern, and open design studios where designers, managers, and producers work collaboratively to craft experiences that focus on solving tough problems, all while having a great time. We also value and intentionally create the space for a true work/life balance.

About the role

We’re looking for a Designer who will rise to the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely and collaboratively with researchers, program managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements.
  • Create and assess design solutions based on user research insights and user goals.
  • Deliver a variety of design outputs, from high level concepts to detailed designs to clickable prototypes, to ensure product excellence.
  • Present your work and communicate design decisions in clear and compelling ways at various stages of the design process.
  • Be self-directed and able to self-manage.

Qualifications

Essential skills and experience required to apply:

  • At least two years of industry experience in interactive design and/or visual design
  • A current online portfolio demonstrating well thought through and polished end-to-end user journeys
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Design, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Additional skills and experience, not required to apply:

  • User-centric approach to design and an understanding of how to apply research insights into design and development of the product experience.
  • Familiarity with developers’ tools, their modern work lifecycle and needs. (Languages, Environments, APIs)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to energize teams and advocate for your ideas
  • Ability to create highly polished design prototypes, mockups, and other communication artifacts
  • The ability to prioritize tasks and goals independently
  • Experience impacting shipping products with your work is a plus
  • Developing and working with design systems – creating, documenting and applying established design principles and interaction patterns
  • Proficiency in current industry standard design tools, such as Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Sketch

Please include URLs for an online portfolio demonstrating your design process, UX flows, interaction patterns and visual design skills in addition to resume. Submissions without a portfolio cannot be considered.
