Density’s mission is to measure and improve our footprint on the world.

We design and use buildings based on observation, trends, surveys, and precedent. Buildings are the most valuable assets in the world whose performance we do not measure. And yet their construction and maintenance come at an extraordinary cost. Buildings account for 39% of global CO2 emissions. Our methods of space design and management have led to underutilized space, wasted time, bad design, inefficient energy use, and incalculable opportunity cost.

We need better tools of measurement because measurement will lead to improvement. We used to want these things. But today, the present circumstances demand it.

Product Design is fundamental to deliver on our mission to measure all relevant human space.

We see Density’s software as a system that should allow you to navigate 10 million+ sq ft of space as easily as you pinch-to-zoom. Users should be able to replay how people use space without invading their privacy; see if a space is available in real-time, compare the performance of a room or neighborhood or floor or building with any other; and to see where there are collisions, lingering, and focus.

We believe Density can enable the A/B testing of physical space and realities equivalent of the Marauder’s Map.

As Director of Product Design, you will own development and execution of the Product Design practice at Density, and play a critical role

In this role you will:

  • Lead and scale the Product Design practice at Density.
  • Collaborate closely with leadership across Engineering and Product to shape product strategy and vision.
  • Advocate for design-led approaches across the Density organization.
  • Work alongside the design team — initially, you’ll help us ship product as you help build out the team.
  • Ensure the craft and quality of work produced by the team is of the highest standard (and work to establish these standards).
  • Partner with our recruiting team to plan for scale, and prioritize hiring to execute on these plans.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Have experience building and managing teams (7+ designers).
  • Are passionate about mentoring designers.
  • Demonstrated success working in a scrappy and fast-growing environment; including advocating for design-led approaches within this environment.
  • History of excellent work that can inspire more junior designers.
  • Experience working with data visualization and/or enterprise SaaS.

What we bring:

  • Excellent benefits including medical, dental, vision, mental and reproductive health, 401K, equity, Flex Fridays, Remote Friendly, unlimited and mandatory PTO and more.
  • A work environment full of fun, smart, talented, dedicated, and truly kind teammates.
  • Our values: be humble, seek feedback, and always solve the fundamental problem. These values are hard to achieve but we aspire to them daily.
  • A team hailing from places like Apple, LinkedIn, Stripe, Meraki, Hashi Corp, WeWork, NASA, & beyond.
  • $227 million raised from investors like Kleiner Perkins, Founders Fund, and Upfront Ventures.
