The US Region of Liberty Mutual Reinsurance (LMRe-US) is looking for a seasoned Product Owner to join a high performing development team of five contributors. The team is responsible for supporting our internal customers in the underwriting, claims, actuarial, accounting, finance, and catastrophe modeling departments. This role will report directly to the Director of Operations and will work closely with the Technology Manager and Senior Leadership for strategic delivery.

This role provides an opportunity to contribute to complex initiatives, requiring a customer-first mindset and strong communication skills. Our mission is to empower our customers to maximize profitability and strengthen operational efficiencies by designing solutions that promote collaboration.

Working with our dedicated IT team daily, the product owner will play a critical role in helping the Ops team deliver high value software and reporting solutions for LMRe-US.

  • This team strives to understand customers` problems in detail and ensures the problems are clearly defined, prioritized and the team is focused on the most valuable work.
  • This Team works closely with stakeholders (business and technology), including leadership, to define and prioritize features and stories, ensuring alignment with customer needs and organizational goals.
  • This team develops backlogs and features based on our business objectives and build plans that support our highest priority work.
  • This team Partners closely across functions to ensure we’re delivering comprehensive solutions and managing dependencies.
  • This team has global visibility and occasionally backlogs work from rest of world.

Ideal Candidates will have:

  • Strong leadership skills, comfortable with pushing the team and challenging existing processes.
  • Be self-motivated and assertive during backlog grooming and sprint planning sessions.
  • Be comfortable driving projects, making challenging prioritization decisions, influencing teammates in a complex cross-functional environment.
  • Be comfortable challenging the status quo and to strengthen the existing Kanban board and agile rituals.
  • Effectively balance various tasks simultaneously and adapt to shifting or competing priorities in a fast-paced working environment.
  • Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to support researching activities and taking larger requests and breaking them into smaller and manageable pieces for the team.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well with various personalities and skill levels.
  • Baseline technical skills and willingness to learn to communicate effectively with the development team and other groups that have more technical requests.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to support workshops, working sessions, or sprint ceremonies.
  • Work independently or as part of a group.
  • Be enthusiastic and self-motivated with a desire to learn new tools and technologies.
  • Have strong analytical, collaboration, organization, and presentation skills

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the (re)insurance industry strongly preferred in any of the following disciplines: Underwriting, Claims, Finance/Accounting, Actuarial, Operations.
  • Knowledge of relevant products and portfolio preferred. Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty.
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management as typically acquired through a Bachelors` degree in relevant field (business, computer science, humanities etc.) and a minimum of 3 to 5 years direct experience with agile teams as well as 5 years in business, technology, or consulting.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to depict and explain the importance of complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; educate SBU/department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change.
  • Able to influence a diverse group of stakeholders; strong leadership skills.
  • Comfortable with making decisions with some level of uncertainty.
  • Able to make difficult and quick decisions daily. Strong problem solver with demonstrated ability to lead a team to push the solutions and progress.
