Copy answer link Report answerCompanies dragging their feet on payments usually means they don’t value freelancers much. Sometimes it’s pure neglect or hoping you’ll just forget. Freelancers? Chase your money like a bloodhound. No contract, no work. And learn the fine art of ghosting clients who ghost you first.

Louis Hopkins: Yeah, escrow sounds smart. I had a client ghost on payment once—total headache. Report
Andrew Taylor: Been there, escrow saves a ton of hassle when someone disappears. I’d rather deal with the extra step than chase payment later. Report

Conduct a skills audit by documenting negotiation abilities, contract literacy, and invoicing precision. Implement clear payment schedules in contracts, use milestone billing to secure partial payments, and maintain thorough delivery records. Sometimes companies delay payments because their internal processes are slow or they’re juggling cash flow problems. To protect ourselves, we can always set clear payment terms in a contract and request partial upfront deposits before starting work. Also, keeping a detailed record of all communications and deliveries helps if we ever need to follow up or escalate for our money.

Answers written by individuals with verified professional backgrounds or direct experience in the field are prioritized.
