Copy answer link Report answerYeah, you can start without tech skills but don’t sleep on how risky that is—like wasting $10k+ on devs who ghost or deliver half-baked stuff because you didn’t get the basics. If you skip learning simple coding concepts or how apps even work, you’ll have zero clue if timelines (usually 3-6 months minimum) are realistic or if someone’s lowballing just to disappear. Worst case? You burn serious cash chasing ideas that aren’t possible or end up with a buggy product nobody wants. Even just 20 hours messing with online coding tutorials can save you from major headaches and help spot sketchy freelancers before they take your money and vanish. Imho, at least get comfy talking tech before throwing down big bets—trust me, it’s worth avoiding those rookie startup traps!

Without tech understanding, it’s way harder to judge timelines or spot if your dev team is slacking or overpromising. So before jumping in, try to learn enough to speak the language and manage expectations; otherwise you might burn cash chasing dead ends or relying on folks who don’t deliver. It’s about avoiding those common traps more than being an expert coder upfront.

Without understanding what’s doable or how long stuff takes, you’ll likely overpay devs or get stuck with buggy products. If building trust and clear goals with your tech team feels hazy, that’s a red flag. So yeah, learn enough to spot nonsense—like APIs vs custom builds—and budget extra time and cash for inevitable missteps. Otherwise, you’re rolling dice on ideas you don’t fully grasp.

How we moderate answers

We manually review all contributions to ensure that every answer provides clear, actionable, and professionally relevant guidance. We prioritize responses that show practical experience, cite real examples, or demonstrate familiarity with hiring, skills, and job-market trends. Low-quality, duplicate, or AI-generated content that lacks substance is filtered out to maintain accuracy and credibility across the platform.

What makes a high-quality answer

A high-quality answer offers structured, practical, and experience-based guidance that directly addresses the question. Strong answers include specific steps, industry examples, tools or frameworks, and clear reasoning rather than vague opinions. They avoid emotional language, personal journaling, or lifestyle advice, and instead focus on skills, responsibilities, hiring expectations, resumes, interviews, salary insights, and career transitions. Answers written by individuals with verified professional backgrounds or direct experience in the field are prioritized.

Expert participation rules

Experts participating in Q&A must base their answers on real professional experience, not speculation or generic statements. Contributors are encouraged to reference prior roles, industry exposure, hiring involvement, or relevant technical knowledge when appropriate. All expert responses must remain objective, neutral, and career-focused, avoiding promotional content, personal anecdotes, or lifestyle guidance. Verified experts may receive enhanced visibility on the platform, but only if their contributions consistently meet our quality standards and align with Jobicy’s career-focused topic guidelines.
