Copy answer link Report answerFriendships with former coworkers can pay off ofteen. Keep around 2-3 solid contacts for networking and support; I’ve seen people land jobs thru those ties multiple times. Watch out though-mixing personal drama from past work issues can blow up friendships fast 💥. Pick wisely who stays in your circle.

Anonymous [25 Jun 2026](https://jobicy.com/q/1780919875-the-pros-and-cons-of-keeping-friendships-with-former-coworkers#answer-8585.md) Copy answer link Report answerOffice friendships get romanticized. I’ve seen the useful ones, and I’ve seen the dead weight. People act like every former coworker should stay in your life forever - that’s a weird rule. Keep 2 or 3 who share real interests, not just shift schedules.

The upside is access and perspective. The downside is stale gossip, uneven effort, and awkward loyalty tests when someone lands at your next company. If the bond still works outside Slack, keep it. If not, let it fade without making a ceremony out of it.

Keep 2-4 people who text back, meet once a month, and do not turn every chat into office gossip. The rest are just old calendar noise with bad manners.

The risk is dragging offce politics, gossip, and old power dynamics into your free time, which poisons both sides fast. Keep the ones who showed up outside the job, not just during payroll season.

[13 Jun 2026](https://jobicy.com/q/1780919875-the-pros-and-cons-of-keeping-friendships-with-former-coworkers#answer-8346.md) Copy answer link Report answerFriendship with former coworkers sounds nice until you realize those relationships often come loadded with the baggage of old work conflicts and power dynamics that don’t just vanish once you leave. Keeping ties risks dragging outdated grievances or gossip into your personal life, draining trust and energy. If the friendship is based solely on workplace convenience, it rarely survives outside that context without beccoming awkward or forced. Choose to stay friends only if you genuinely connect beyond the office chaos.

How we moderate answers

We manually review all contributions to ensure that every answer provides clear, actionable, and professionally relevant guidance. We prioritize responses that show practical experience, cite real examples, or demonstrate familiarity with hiring, skills, and job-market trends. Low-quality, duplicate, or AI-generated content that lacks substance is filtered out to maintain accuracy and credibility across the platform.

What makes a high-quality answer

A high-quality answer offers structured, practical, and experience-based guidance that directly addresses the question. Strong answers include specific steps, industry examples, tools or frameworks, and clear reasoning rather than vague opinions. They avoid emotional language, personal journaling, or lifestyle advice, and instead focus on skills, responsibilities, hiring expectations, resumes, interviews, salary insights, and career transitions. Answers written by individuals with verified professional backgrounds or direct experience in the field are prioritized.

Expert participation rules

Experts participating in Q&A must base their answers on real professional experience, not speculation or generic statements. Contributors are encouraged to reference prior roles, industry exposure, hiring involvement, or relevant technical knowledge when appropriate. All expert responses must remain objective, neutral, and career-focused, avoiding promotional content, personal anecdotes, or lifestyle guidance. Verified experts may receive enhanced visibility on the platform, but only if their contributions consistently meet our quality standards and align with Jobicy’s career-focused topic guidelines.
