## Description:

I have a philosophy degree and I keep seeing roles in ethics, trust and safety, AI policy, and compliance, but most of them seem to want experience I don’t have. I’m working in a general admin role right now and trying to figure out if there is a realistic path into one of those jobs without going back for another degree. What kinds of entry points or skills would actually matter most?

Copy answer link Report answerPhilosophy fits ethics work fine, but hiring managers want proof, not vibes. Target 2 routes: policy ops or trust and safety. Build 3 artifacts, handle 1 metric like escalation rate, and stop assuming the degree sells itself.

The problem is office people don’t hire for “good thinker.” They hire for someone who can write a clean decision memo, calm down a legal reviewer, and not panic when 200 cases hit queue on Monday. Skip another degree. Get 2-3 sample artifacts, learn Excel/SQL basics, and chase admin-adjacent roles that touch policy or review work.

I’ve seen philosophy grads get ignored because people treat the degree like a hobby. It’s not the diploma. It’s proof you can write, reason, and handle messy judgment calls under pressure. Build that with policy memos, case reviews, and compliance work - not another degree.

The shiny “ethics” title gets overrated; what hires is evidence you can document decisions, spot patterns in 50 to 200 cases a week, and write tight memos without hand-waving.

A second degree is the slow route. What matters most is proof: one writing sample, one process improvement example, one data skill like Excel or basic SQL. If you can show clean judgment plus speed, those trust-and-safety and compliance teams stop caring that your current title says admin.

How we moderate answers

We manually review all contributions to ensure that every answer provides clear, actionable, and professionally relevant guidance. We prioritize responses that show practical experience, cite real examples, or demonstrate familiarity with hiring, skills, and job-market trends. Low-quality, duplicate, or AI-generated content that lacks substance is filtered out to maintain accuracy and credibility across the platform.

What makes a high-quality answer

A high-quality answer offers structured, practical, and experience-based guidance that directly addresses the question. Strong answers include specific steps, industry examples, tools or frameworks, and clear reasoning rather than vague opinions. They avoid emotional language, personal journaling, or lifestyle advice, and instead focus on skills, responsibilities, hiring expectations, resumes, interviews, salary insights, and career transitions. Answers written by individuals with verified professional backgrounds or direct experience in the field are prioritized.

Expert participation rules

Experts participating in Q&A must base their answers on real professional experience, not speculation or generic statements. Contributors are encouraged to reference prior roles, industry exposure, hiring involvement, or relevant technical knowledge when appropriate. All expert responses must remain objective, neutral, and career-focused, avoiding promotional content, personal anecdotes, or lifestyle guidance. Verified experts may receive enhanced visibility on the platform, but only if their contributions consistently meet our quality standards and align with Jobicy’s career-focused topic guidelines.
