# Should I move from CAD to product operations?

## Description:

I have CAD skills and keep seeing ops roles.

Copy answer link Report answerCAD skills aren’t wasted, but product ops is a different kind of grind - less making things, more untangling people, process, and messy handoffs. If you like fixing workflows more than drafting, that’s a real signal. I’ve seen folks move over and do fine once they stop expecting the work to feel as concrete as CAD.

What surprised me was how much ops rewards patience and tolerance for ambiguity. The job can be useful and still feel weirdly invisible for months. If you want cleaner wins and fewer moving parts, CAD may honestly be the saner lane.

I went from a technical role into ops-adjacent work and some days it felt like a relief, other days I missed having one clear skill to point at 😅 not sure if that applies to you but CAD still gives you a strong base for detail and process stuff, which ops people seem to love.

If you love clean technical work over office politics, the grind might feel messy fast.
