Copy answer link Report answer A polished recording sounds impressive, but the useful question is whether the employer will score the same evidence in both formats. The missing fact is the evaluation rubric: if video is optional but reviewers use written criteria, a recording adds technical and presentation risk without improving your score.

Ask whether they assess delivery, rapport, and spoken reasoning separately from the content. If they do, record it. If they assess only the quality of your response, choose the format where you can be most precise.

1. Request the rubric or clarify the assessed skills.
2. Match the format to those skills.
3. If recording, use a quiet test clip and answer directly: “My recommendation is X because…”

Caveat: follow any stated submission preference, even if another format seems stronger.

Copy answer link Report answer Submit the recording if the role depends on communication, presentation, or customer interaction. It lets recruiters assess clarity, confidence, and listening in ways a written response cannot. The downside is that poor audio, weak framing, or visible nerves can overshadow your actual answers.

For example, a remote support role benefits from hearing how you explain a technical fix. Record one clean take, check the sound, and keep it concise. Choose writing instead if the job mainly tests analysis or written communication, or if recording quality would be unreliable.

Copy answer link Report answer Because this is a remote screening task, choose video only if live explanation is central to the role; ask the recruiter which format they score.

Copy answer link Report answer Record it only after checking whether the task is testing delivery or judgment. Use this criterion: choose video if the job requires you to explain decisions aloud; choose writing if the role mainly rewards accuracy, analysis, or careful written communication. Before submitting, watch the file with sound off and then listen without the picture. If either version makes you work to follow the answer, redo it. A clear, concise recording is stronger than a polished but over-rehearsed performance. What does the prompt say they’re evaluating?
