Copy answer link Report answer Waiting for a referral can sound more strategic, but a timely application is usually more useful. If the role closes Friday, apply now and have your colleague submit the referral afterward, ideally while the posting is still active. Many systems let referrals be attached or mentioned to the recruiter later.

Wait only if your colleague has confirmed they can refer you promptly and their process requires applying through a referral link. Apply today, then send them the posting and your application details.
