### Instructions and covered skills

Read each scenario carefully before selecting a response. Focus on the user-facing impact as well as the linguistic issue described. Treat screenshots, context, placeholders, and product behavior as relevant evidence. Do not let unfamiliar product names distract you from the testing principle being assessed. Work in a quiet setting and turn off notifications before starting. Review your selections for consistency with localization quality assurance practice before submitting.

### Key Areas

This test examines the practical work of localization quality assurance and linguistic testing for digital products. Candidates review translated interfaces in context and distinguish language defects from functional, visual, and content-source issues. Key areas include detecting untranslated text, truncated strings, incorrect placeholder handling, broken markup, and inconsistent terminology. It also covers whether punctuation, capitalization, dates, currencies, names, units, and grammatical forms fit the target locale and the surrounding interface.

Strong performance requires attention to contextual meaning. A label may be linguistically accurate in isolation but unsuitable for a button, confirmation message, menu item, or error state. Candidates should recognize when a defect affects comprehension, task completion, legal clarity, brand consistency, or user confidence. The assessment also addresses layout direction, character rendering, plural messages, gender-sensitive phrasing, and text expansion across responsive views.

Defect reporting is another central area. Useful reports identify the locale, platform, build, location, expected result, actual result, and evidence needed for another person to reproduce the finding. Candidates should be able to assign a sensible severity based on user impact and describe issues without prescribing unsupported technical solutions.

### Recommended Preparation

Prepare by reviewing localized websites, mobile applications, transactional emails, and help flows in their rendered environments. Compare source and target content while paying attention to intent, terminology, variables, links, formatting, and interaction states. Practice writing concise defect reports with screenshots and clear reproduction steps. Familiarity with translation memories, termbases, style guides, issue trackers, and localization platforms is useful because these resources support consistent review and efficient handoff.

Also review locale conventions for the markets you support, including date and time patterns, decimal separators, currency placement, address formats, quotation marks, and formality choices. When testing, consider the entire user journey rather than isolated strings. A quality finding should explain what the user sees, why it matters in context, and what evidence confirms the issue.

### Examples of questions

1. What information makes a linguistic defect report reproducible?
2. How should a tester handle a translated string that exceeds a button width?
3. Which issue occurs when a variable appears in the wrong grammatical position?
4. Why should localized email templates be tested in their rendered form?
5. What is the purpose of pseudo-localization during product testing?
6. How should a tester assess a translation that uses an approved term inconsistently?
7. What evidence should accompany a report about truncated mobile text?
8. When does a date format require localization review?
9. What should a tester verify after a product changes from left-to-right to right-to-left layout?
10. How should untranslated source text be categorized in a localized build? 03

### Who this test is best for

Localization QA testers, linguistic reviewers, translators working in product environments, localization coordinators, and multilingual product operations candidates.
