RICE prioritization helps product teams compare opportunities using Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort. Consistent use of the framework makes assumptions visible, supports constructive stakeholder discussions, and connects roadmap choices to expected customer and business outcomes.

### Instructions and covered skills

Read each scenario carefully before selecting a response. Keep your attention on the stated RICE definitions and time periods. Use the data provided rather than assumptions from a different product context. For calculation questions, check units and estimate values before choosing an answer. Turn off notifications and avoid distractions while completing the test. Select the response that best supports a consistent, evidence-based prioritization process.

### Key Areas

This test examines the use of RICE as a structured method for prioritizing product opportunities. Candidates interpret Reach as the number of affected users, accounts, transactions, or other defined units within a stated time period. They distinguish Impact from Reach and use a consistent impact scale so that scores remain comparable across initiatives. The assessment also covers Confidence as a visible representation of evidence quality rather than a substitute for favorable assumptions.

Candidates calculate and compare scores using the formula Reach multiplied by Impact multiplied by Confidence, divided by Effort. They identify unit mismatches, such as comparing weekly reach for one item with quarterly reach for another, and recognize why effort estimates need a shared unit such as person-months. Scenarios address how to handle uncertain estimates, partial discovery evidence, dependencies, strategic constraints, and score updates after new research or delivery information becomes available.

The test also evaluates decision communication. Strong product prioritization records assumptions, source data, time horizons, ownership, and confidence rationale. RICE provides a decision input, not an automatic replacement for judgment. Candidates should be able to explain when a lower-scoring item may still be scheduled because of contractual commitments, risk reduction, platform dependencies, or time-sensitive opportunities.

### Recommended Preparation

Review the definitions of Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort, then practice translating product opportunities into measurable estimates. Work through score calculations without changing the time period or effort unit between items. Examine examples of product analytics, customer research, support trends, and delivery estimates that can inform each input. Practice documenting assumptions and identifying which estimate would most change the decision if it proved inaccurate. Finally, compare several scored opportunities and prepare a concise explanation of the recommendation, the evidence behind it, and the constraints that may require a separate roadmap decision.

### Examples of questions

1. What does Reach represent in a RICE score?
2. How is a RICE score calculated?
3. Which source can support an estimate of monthly Reach?
4. Why is Confidence included in the framework?
5. How should Effort be expressed for comparable initiatives?
6. What action is appropriate when Impact evidence is limited?
7. How can a team avoid mixing weekly and quarterly Reach estimates?
8. When should a RICE score be recalculated?
9. What does a score comparison indicate about two opportunities?
10. How should dependencies affect a prioritization discussion? 03

### Who this test is best for
