### Instructions and covered skills

Complete the test in a quiet setting with notifications turned off. Read each scenario carefully before selecting a response. Choose the option that best supports a useful customer discovery conversation. Focus on the information available rather than assumptions about the buyer. Avoid rushing through wording that may change the meaning of a question. Stay focused on the customer’s business situation, priorities, and decision process. Review your selections before submitting your responses.

### Key Areas

This test covers the practices used to conduct productive sales discovery and translate customer conversations into meaningful commercial insight. Candidates are assessed on their ability to use open and focused questions at appropriate moments, identify the difference between a stated request and the business outcome behind it, and explore the operational, financial, and customer impact of a problem.

Strong discovery also requires active listening. The test addresses clarification, paraphrasing, confirmation, and follow-up questioning that helps a seller avoid assumptions. Candidates should be able to recognize when a buyer has supplied an opinion, a symptom, a constraint, a goal, or a decision requirement, then select a response that moves the conversation forward.

Decision dynamics are another focus. Relevant skills include identifying stakeholders, understanding roles in an evaluation, uncovering purchase timing, and learning how a customer will judge potential solutions. Candidates should understand how to ask about existing processes and alternatives without making a buyer defensive or prematurely positioning a product.

### Recommended Preparation

Prepare by reviewing recent discovery calls or role-play transcripts. Identify the questions that produced specific facts, measurable consequences, and clear next steps. Practice converting closed or leading questions into prompts that invite the customer to describe context in their own words. For each stated challenge, practice asking about its frequency, affected teams, current workaround, and consequence if it remains unresolved.

Practice concise summaries such as: “You mentioned that the handoff delay affects renewal timing and requires manual tracking. Did I capture that accurately?” This type of confirmation protects against misunderstanding and gives the buyer an opportunity to correct the record. Also review how decision criteria, stakeholders, budget ownership, and timing can be explored through neutral questions. The goal is not to interrogate the buyer; it is to build a shared understanding of whether a meaningful solution and next step exist.

2. How should a seller respond when a buyer gives a broad pain statement?
3. Which question helps identify the people involved in a purchase decision?
4. What is the purpose of summarizing a buyer’s stated priorities?
5. Which follow-up best clarifies the timeline for addressing an issue?
6. How can a seller distinguish a symptom from an underlying business need?
7. What question helps assess the consequences of maintaining the current approach?
8. When should a seller ask about evaluation criteria?
9. Which response encourages a buyer to elaborate on an operational challenge?
