About the Job:
- Coordinate with external service providers to prepare US sales/use tax, Canada GST/HST & Australia GST compliance returns
- Responsible for preparing and maintaining indirect tax (sales/use/excise/VAT) calendars
- Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate indirect tax compliance document requests
- Coordinate, track, and respond to various incoming tax notices and bills
- Coordinate with external service providers to prepare US property tax filings and payments, business registrations and renewals, and various gross receipt/excise tax compliance returns
- Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining reconciliations via analysis of the general ledger activity to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Perform monthly reconciliations of indirect tax payable accounts to underlying return details, general ledgers, and systems of original entry
- Prepare, analyze, and investigate fluxes in monthly compliance data
- Analyze data from internal systems and compare against additional datasets to assess completeness of data
- Lead special projects affecting the following areas within indirect tax: controversy, compliance, planning, operations, and policy
- Communicate directly with external advisors and internal stakeholders including accounting, legal, engineering, operations, and finance on a variety of initiatives
- Assist in process improvement projects relating to the transmission of sales and use tax data used within return preparation and filing
- Perform tax research and document finding in technical memorandums
- Assist the Tax Manager and Business Development team with merger and acquisition review and integration of businesses to centralized compliance processes
- Responsible for preparing and managing Indirect and Property tax forecasts
- Responsible for exemption certificate maintenance process relating to vendors and customers
- Ability to identify potential compliance issues and recommend solutions
- Drive ongoing process improvements, focusing on automation, efficiency, and analytics in partnership with our Tax Technology team
About You:
Minimum Qualifications:- General understanding of accounting principles including but not limited to general ledgers, trial balances, ERP systems, etc.
- Ability to simultaneously work on projects with competing deadlines
- Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Oracle, Vertex, and other data analytical tools a plus
- B.S. degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related field of specialized study
- Interest in learning about indirect tax and the tax operations of a fast-growing company
- Excellent writing, communication, and research skills
- 2-4 years of tax accounting and/or indirect tax experience
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to prioritize various projects with competing deadlines while meeting targeted due dates
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders that foster organizational success
