We are seeking a highly skilled Data Associate/Linguist with legal background and native or near-native fluency in French. The ideal candidate will possess excellent linguistic skills, experience in data annotation, and the ability to provide cultural insights for French-speaking audiences in a legal context. This role involves close collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of labeled data.
This position is an individual contributor role reporting to the Technical Program Manager.
Responsibility
- Label new and existing projects in French accurately, ensuring that terminology is both culturally and contextually appropriately by understanding the context of the data, applying the correct labels, and maintaining a high level of precision and consistency across all projects
- Work closely with product managers, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and scope for effective labeling which includes participating in meetings, understanding project requirements, and providing feedback to improve processes and outcomes
- Review and edit labels for consistency, clarity, and accuracy across all AI projects
- Conduct regular quality checks and audits to ensure that all labeled data meets the highest standards of quality and reliability
- Understand the nuances and preferences of French-speaking audiences to ensure accurate and culturally appropriate references by staying updated with cultural trends and linguistic changes within French-speaking communities
- Use legal expertise in both English and French to interpret complex legal documents correctly
- Provide or verify accurate translations of legal texts, ensuring that all legal terminology is used appropriately and that the meaning is preserved across languages

What you bring
Basic
- Native or near-native fluency in French, with written communication skills in both English and French
- Ability to convey complex ideas clearly and effectively in English and French
- Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics or a related field
- 4+ years Experience with data annotation, linguistic annotation, and other forms of data markup
- Ability to strictly adhere to annotation guidelines, think abstractly about language, and identify basic parts of speech
Preferred
- Qualified degree in Law
- Strong understanding of linguistic principles and the ability to apply them to real-world data annotation tasks
- Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret legal documents, with a strong grasp of legal terminology in both English and French
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Familiarity with Regex and SQL
- Experience with software localization
Wage Transparency
Pay for this position is based on a number of factors including geographic location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Based on applicable legislation, the below details pay ranges in the following locations:
California: $27.60/hour – $38.89/hour
Illinois and Colorado: $25.24/hour – $32.78/hour
Washington and New York (including NYC metro area): $25.24/hour – $35.86/hour
Washington DC: $27.60/hour – $35.86/hour
