About the Role
We are looking for a Lead Interoperability Engineer responsible for designing, developing, and implementing a set of back-end services to support a wide variety of interoperability-related data flows between the Innovaccer platform and its applications, and other health IT systems and networks. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering background and demonstrated experience in creating new service frameworks, in addition to an understanding of health IT interoperability standards and their practical usage to support healthcare workflows. Experience deploying specific interfaces through an interface engine such as Mirth or Rhapsody is welcome, but is not required, and the expectations for this role go well beyond the use of an interface engine or other existing framework to deploy new connections.A Day in the Life
- Design and deploy interoperability services that will enable Innovaccer applications to integrate into the broader healthcare ecosystem
- Ensure that applications calling these services can accomplish interoperability goals efficiently, without needing to understand the nuances of health IT standards
- Provide design and development guidance to team members deploying connections to specific EHRs, external apps, payer systems, and networks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize interoperability needs
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Share learnings from your health IT experience, with the overall Innovaccer product and engineering teams
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
- 6+ years of experience in healthcare-related engineering
- Deep understanding of HL7 FHIR and its deployment, including FHIR-at-scale considerations
- Familiarity with other interoperability standards such as HL7 v2, IHE XCPD/XCA, Direct Messaging, and C-CDA
- Expertise in Python
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence peers and management, and champion best practices
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Willingness to travel, including internationally
Nice to Have:
- Proven experience designing and deploying scalable services that handle millions of transactions per day
- Understanding of medical terminology standards such as LOINC, ICD-10, and CPT
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations such as HIPAA and Meaningful Use
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Location within manageable driving distance to the Chicago-Milwaukee-Madison region, or Bay Area
