We have a great opportunity as an Accountant on our Balance Sheet Reconciliation Center of Excellence team! This position is part of the Ferguson Financial Shared Services Center. We work in a highly collaborative environment. The ideal candidate possesses a solid accounting background with experience in preparing both balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries. This person is a self-starter, flexible, and has a high level of integrity. The candidate is goal-oriented and can work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Location:
This role is approved to be either Remote within the United States or Hybrid for associates in Newport News, VA, in accordance with company policy.Responsibilities:
- Prepare the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts with all supporting documentation in accordance with accounting principles and reporting schedules.
- Propose and post fully supported journal entries that may be required to complete and/or correct a balance sheet reconciliation.
- Prepare documentation of accounting processes as required so as to find and propose suggestions for improved efficiency.
- Awareness of Sarbanes Oxley Act (SOX) compliance and preparation of IUC.
- Provide information needed during internal audits and quarterly/year-end external audits.
- Perform account and trend analysis and report on any significant occurrences or changes.
- Support the accounting team with GL research.
- Responsible for meeting due dates of assigned tasks within the period-end close process.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field strongly desired or equivalent, proven work experience in Accounting.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
- 3-5+ years of accounting and/or audit experience (sophisticated large size organization ideal).
- Knowledge of US GAAP.
- Experience with financial and accounting reporting systems, specifically Oracle.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (i.e. pivots and various formulas including v/x-lookups, sumifs, macros).
- Distribution and/or retail experience a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (this role will require someone that is comfortable speaking and working with other Departments within the company on ongoing basis).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley and internal controls.
- Process improvement mentality (this role will be tasked with helping to create more efficient processes that aid in the reconciliation process).
