JOB SUMMARY: The Associate Vice President (AVP), Technical Accounting, is a senior executive role responsible for leading the global technical accounting function across a complex, multinational organization. This role requires deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606, and a strong track record in the health, tech, or health tech sectors. The AVP will oversee the evaluation and documentation of complex accounting matters, support global external reporting, and partner cross-functionally to ensure accounting compliance across diverse business activities and geographies. The Associate Vice President (AVP), Technical Accounting, functions as a senior executive leader responsible for driving the global technical accounting strategy within a complex, multinational organization. Success in this role requires maintaining a strong customer-centric mindset–balancing the needs of internal stakeholders, external auditors, and regulatory bodies when making decisions and taking action. The AVP exercises significant decision-making authority in interpreting and applying U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606, to diverse and complex business transactions. This role has a direct impact on corporate financial integrity, external reporting accuracy, and compliance with evolving accounting standards. The AVP partners cross-functionally with finance, legal, operations, and business unit leaders to ensure consistent and compliant accounting practices across global operations. This position operates with a high degree of independence and is accountable for evaluating and documenting complex accounting matters, influencing strategic financial planning, and supporting audit readiness. While the AVP does not have direct people management responsibilities, the role may involve indirect oversight of regional accounting leads and project-based teams. The AVP also serves as a key advisor to executive leadership on technical accounting implications of business initiatives, mergers, and strategic transactions. JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serve as the global subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and international accounting standards, including revenue recognition, leasing, M&A, and equity compensation.
2. Lead the technical evaluation and documentation of global customer and partner contracts under ASC 606, including performance obligations, variable consideration, and principal vs. agent assessments.
3. Develop and maintain global accounting policies and ensure consistent application across all regions and business units.
4. Collaborate with Legal, Sales, FP&A, Operations, and IT to assess accounting implications of new business models, international expansion, and strategic transactions.
5. Monitor and implement emerging accounting standards and regulatory changes across global jurisdictions.
6. Oversee the preparation of technical accounting memos and white papers for senior leadership and the Audit Committee.
7. Support global external financial reporting, including SEC filings and international statutory disclosures.
8. Lead interactions with external auditors and regulatory bodies on technical accounting matters.
9. Drive continuous improvement in accounting processes, systems, and internal controls, ensuring SOX compliance.
10. Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing global technical accounting team.
11. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other data privacy regulations in health-related operations.
12. Champion the company’s core values and foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, and innovation.
13. Select, develop, and evaluate staff to ensure the efficient operation of department.
14. Collaborate, coordinate, and communicate across disciplines and departments.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $200k-$230k. Specific offers take into account a candidate’s education, experience and skills, as well as the candidate’s work location and internal equity. This position is also eligible for health insurance, 401k and bonus opportunity.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS (Education, Experience, and Training): * Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s or MBA preferred.
* CPA required.
* 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and senior technical roles in global organizations.
* Proven experience in the health, tech, or health tech sectors is required.
* Deep expertise in ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 805, and ASC 718.
* Experience with SEC reporting, SOX compliance, and international accounting standards (e.g., IFRS).
* Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders in a global matrixed environment.
* Exceptional analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
* Experience in high-growth, public, or pre-IPO companies is a strong plus. The salary range for this position is $200k-$230k.
