Senior Director, National Defense and Security, CIO Analyst and Thought Leader
Gartner is seeking a European-based analyst for emerging technology and data to support national defense and security CIOs in advancing modernization and digital transformation.
Successful candidates must have senior technology or data leadership experience within EMEA or NATO defense or intelligence agencies, and possess deep expertise in digital and AI strategies, programs, and policies related to national defense—particularly within European defense, NATO, and their global technology partners and suppliers.
About This Role:
Gartner Analysts are industry thought leaders who create must-have research, market predictions and best practices for a broad range of world-leading organizations. A Senior Director serves as a leader within Gartner’s Research and Advisory business, establishing oneself as a credible voice within their designated market at local, regional, and/or global levels. Using exceptional research and analytical skills, a Senior Director plays a significant role in producing pragmatic and provocative research which Gartner clients consume and apply to mission critical priorities. They are a trusted source of advice for clients, reinforcing Gartner’s value every day. They engage via in-person meetings, virtual meetings, sales support visits and Gartner conferences to discuss complex client challenges and offer appropriate recommendations.
This analyst role sits within Gartner’s CIO and AI Leaders Research, Government and Education Practice. The analyst will support CIOs and other technology executives in accelerating national defense modernization and innovation. As geopolitical uncertainties and disruptive forces impact defense organizations and their allies and partners, this role will focus on the use of emerging technologies and data to support operational resilience, multi-domain integration and interoperability, and workforce readiness.
What You Will Do
Research the evolving role of data, data integration, and data analysis in support of military readiness and operational excellence for defense organizations in Europe, particularly with an eye towards NATO policy and practice
Track European and global market trends, relevant vendors and emerging technologies to remain ahead of the curve within changing geopolitical uncertainties and global power competition.
Write evidence-based content that is easily consumed, defensible and actionable.
Deliver high-quality actionable advice to an executive client audience (e.g., CIOs, program executive officers, CTOs, etc.) through a variety of form factors.
Create and deliver presentations for webinars, executive briefings and other client-facing events.
Build credibility as a defense market expert representing Gartner Research and Advisory
Deliver outstanding sales and service support to retain and grow the Gartner business.
Actively participate in ideation and research community discussions and collaborate effectively with colleagues across our research community.
Identify research process improvements or develop new processes that help the team and Research & Advisory provide excellent service delivery.
Be a mentor and a coach by supporting more junior team members
What you’ll need:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform essential duties in a strategic, analytical and collaborative manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- 12+ years of experience in Supply Chain with expertise in the field of supply chain risk management, continuity planning and supplier risk management with demonstrated ability to utilize frameworks and methodologies to mitigate supply chain risk.
- Successful candidate is a passionate risk management professional having directly participated or led risk management, continuity planning functions, supplier relationship / risk programs or COE teams.
- Deep understanding of the end-to-end supply chain, and ability to understand trends, best practices, strategies and critical success factors in theestablishment and improvement of supply chain risk management, continuity planning and supplier risk management.
- Ability to interact at all levels of an organization on supply chain and business issues.
- Ability to represent and defend analysis in client interactions.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills. Written work must be concise and persuasive.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills. The ability to influence “C” level clients.
- Demonstrate excellent analytical skills; applying conceptual models, recognizing patterns and drawing and defending conclusions. Strong business acumen as well as analytical skills are required for this position.
- The candidate must be a strategic and critical thinker, able to efficiently multitask, and to deliver high quality actionable advice on time through a variety of media.
- The candidate must demonstrate a self-motivated work ethic but also be collaborative within geographically diverse team environment.
- Experience with the best practices and issues facing end users (“clients”).
- Articulate and succinct communication skills; ability to explain complex ideas effectively and presenting to large groups in workshops and conferences desired.
- Strong project planning and management skills with a strong team-working ethos.
- Exceptional influencing and leadership skills.
- Be able to travel up to 25-30% of the year including attending 2+ Gartner conferences per year.
- Bachelor’s degree. MBA preferred.
