This role is accountable for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of systems hosted across on-premise servers, Microsoft Azure, and AWS, while overseeing production support, application helpdesk, and data ingestion workflows.
As a senior leader, the Director will balance today’s operational needs — including support for legacy on-prem environments — with the roadmap to expand cloud presence and adopt modern automation practices. This role will shape the company’s multi-cloud and hybrid operational strategy, mentor operational managers, and establish best-in-class practices for monitoring, incident response, and compliance in a healthcare technology environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Define and execute a hybrid operations strategy that spans on-premise servers and multi-cloud (Azure and AWS) services.
- Set vision and KPIs for operational excellence, including uptime, SLA adherence, and mean time to recovery (MTTR).
- Partner with engineering leadership to align technical operations priorities with product and business objectives.
- Lead teams responsible for production support, application helpdesk, cloud operations, and data ingestion.
- Ensure effective support for legacy on-prem servers and services while planning phased migration to the cloud.
- Oversee the incident response lifecycle (detection, triage, escalation, resolution, and postmortems), ensuring consistent root cause analysis and process maturity.
- Ensure helpdesk operations deliver responsive, customer-focused support for internal users and business stakeholders.
- Drive automation of support processes, runbooks, and monitoring for both on-prem and cloud environments.
- Direct implementation of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation) for repeatable deployments.
- Oversee containerized workloads (AKS, EKS, Docker) as well as legacy on-premise applications and databases.
- Implement observability platforms spanning Azure Monitor, Application Insights, AWS CloudWatch, Prometheus, and centralized logging solutions.
- Drive adherence to HIPAA, SOC2, and healthcare regulatory standards across all environments.
- Partner with Security to strengthen IAM, secrets management, and audit controls across Azure, AWS, and on-prem systems.
- Establish governance models for data handling, PHI/PII security, and vendor integrations.
- Mentor managers and senior engineers, fostering a culture of accountability, learning, and proactive problem-solving.
- Champion cross-functional collaboration with Product, Engineering, and Client Success to ensure platform reliability and smooth end-user experiences.
- Represent Technical Operations in executive forums and communicate operational strategy to business leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience in technical operations, site reliability engineering, or DevOps roles, with at least 5 years in leadership.
- Deep expertise in Azure and AWS cloud environments, plus operational experience with on-premise servers and hybrid deployments.
- Proven track record overseeing production support, application helpdesk, and data ingestion in mission-critical environments.
- Strong background in incident response, observability, automation, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Familiarity with .NET/C#, SQL Server/T-SQL, and enterprise integration patterns.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience managing teams in highly regulated or healthcare settings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience scaling hybrid operations during on-prem to cloud migration initiatives.
- Hands-on expertise with EDI standards (837, 835, 270/271) and payer/provider data integrations.
- Strong financial acumen for optimizing both cloud spend and legacy infrastructure costs.
- Exposure to modern service mesh, serverless, and multi-cloud governance frameworks.
- Demonstrated success in leading cultural and technical transformations (e.g., container adoption, IaC rollout, cloud migrations).
- A quiet, distraction-free environment to work from in your home.
- A secure home internet connection with speeds >20 Mbps for downloads and >10 Mbps for uploads is required.
- The workspace area accommodates all workstation equipment and related materials and provides adequate surface area to be productive.
