Senior Tax Accountant

The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Regional European Tax Manager, the Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for multiple tax compliance matters in the UK and will be part of the European tax team based at Assurant’s European headquarters in the UK. You will ensure that the group’s UK tax compliance obligations are met including direct tax filings and US GAAP tax reporting and also to assist the European tax team in preparing EU tax returns and providing tax advice.
This would be a great role for a newly qualified tax professional looking for a first move in-house; an opportunity to manage UK direct tax compliance, implement process improvements and scope to be involved in varied Pan-European tax advisory work including client deals, group restructuring, transfer pricing, and tax audits.
Direct tax compliance
- Prepare US GAAP quarterly reporting (current and deferred tax calculations) for UK group companies
- Forecast permanent differences for US tax accounting
- Prepare and file UK corporation tax computations
- Help with the UK R&D tax credit claims and UK capital allowance claims
- Prepare UK tax disclosures for legal entity financial statements and 5471 tax packs for US tax returns
- Prepare inter-company transaction data for transfer pricing purposes
- Estimate UK quarterly corporation tax instalment payments and advise on other European tax payments
- Help with Pillar 2 Global Information Return and associated filings and EU Public CbC reporting
- Help with any tax audits or other correspondence and communications with HMRC
- Help maintain process notes, Senior Accounting Officer and Criminal Finance Act risk assessments and documentation
Other
- Prepare and file annual PSA returns
- Prepare and file annual Form 42 employment related securities returns
- Help with the preparation and management of other European corporate income tax filings with external tax advisers
- Work with US tax and European finance teams
You Have:
- Experience; Part or fully qualified accountant (eg ICAEW) or qualified tax adviser (eg CIOT). Will consider qualified by experience or trained with HM Revenue & Customs
- Experience working in UK tax (either in practice or in industry)
- Experience working in the insurance industry preferred but not essential
- Experience working in the tax technology field beneficial but not essential
- Direct tax knowledge (specifically UK corporation tax) required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Knowledge of / or working with finance ERP systems, eg Oracle
- Knowledge of Alphatax and OneSource Tax Provision preferred but not essential
- Review existing processes and implement process improvement
- Keen to embrace new technology and apply it to automating routine tax compliance tasks
