Archive Job Description

Performs the installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of Linux and other Unix computer systems.  Provides customer-facing and internal technical support for a diverse environment.

Candidates located in the greater Denver/Boulder, CO area are preferred, but this position can work remotely.

Candidates located anywhere in the United States will be considered. Relocation is not required.

Duties

  • Acting as a subject matter expert for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and compatible systems in Cloud and Virtualized environments.
  • Consult with the internal team and end-users to determine system requirements and specifications.
  • Act as a member of a quick-response team.  Will often work under demanding deadlines, operating independently to resolve complex problems.
  • Develop scripts to automate repetitive tasks or document procedural run-books for junior administrators.
  • Be part of an on-call rotation.
  • May be asked to mentor others or serve as a team lead, guiding the day-to-day activities of team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The estimated base salary range for this position: $110,000 – $120,000.

The actual salary range is based on fair market value based on your geographical location, skills, and role requirements, and responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least ten (10) years of Linux administration experience.  AIX experience is a plus. RedHat or LPIC certifications are a plus.
  • Prior experience and success in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) or advanced technical support environment is required. Must be familiar with working in a 24/7/365 environment and willing to participate in on-call rotations.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, AWS, or other cloud providers.
  • This is a customer-facing position and requires the ability to work with customers.  Must be able to clearly summarize and communicate complex environments and issues to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills.  Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
  • Proven ability to understand, interpret, and glean results from complex technical relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage moderately complex projects involving UNIX systems.
  • Configuration Management experience is a plus (SaltStack, Ansible, or similar).
  • Knowledge of security-related best practices. Security+ or ISC2 certifications are a plus.
  • Strategic, tactical, operational, and financial understanding of an IT environment.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with change management processes and tools.
