The GitHub Mobile team is changing the way developers across the world collaborate on GitHub through native Android and iOS apps. Launched in March 2020, GitHub Mobile is one of our fastest growing products with over 10 million downloads across both platforms and a 4.7-star rating in Google Play.
The team is looking for someone who is passionate about the Android platform and who will help us build a world-class app in design, performance, and accessibility. Staff Software Engineers on our team are expected to provide sound technical leadership, drive complex initiatives, and be a mentor for other engineers.
Stack: Our Android app is built with Kotlin and uses Apollo to communicate with GitHub GraphQL APIs. On the UI, we use Compose
Responsibilities:
Our team is distributed worldwide which means we work asynchronously most of the time. Your typical week would include:
- Brainstorming on architecture and product decisions with the team. It’s a small team, everyone’s input matters!
- Setting technical direction and build new features that will simplify our users’ workflows
- Participating in engineering-wide architecture and design reviews
- Coordinating cross-team initiatives to ship new products and features across GitHub
- Collaborating with iOS and backend engineers to create a unified product
- Jamming on pixels with designers to propose new ideas or provide feedback
- Testing the app at bug bashes to ensure we’re shipping a high quality product
- Mentoring teammates to level up others, both at work and in their careers
Minimum/Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years’ experience as a software engineer
- 3+ years’ experience as a mobile engineer
- Experience developing Android apps and distributing them through Google Play
- Experience with Git and GitHub
Preferred Qualifications:
- Personal experience with Android devices and even a FAN of it!
- Experience in Kotlin and Compose
- Knowledge of design, testing, and debugging best practices
- Strong written communication skills
- Experience and proven track record of successfully applying critical thinking skills to system design and software engineering concepts in previous projects to meet project goals and requirements
Minimum salary of $118,000 to maximum $313,300.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual’s base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
