Buying a used car has been essentially the same for 75 years: what’s the mileage, what’s the vehicle history, get a mechanic to check out the moving parts and haggle over the price. As electric vehicles (EVs) hit the used market, buyers are changing the way they research and buy.
Recurrent is the future of how used electric cars (and therefore eventually all used cars) are bought and sold. As the first mover on used EV battery analysis, we have the best set of cross-manufacturer battery aging data to develop the most accurate predictive algorithm for future battery life and range. With this key information as a differentiator, we’re beginning to facilitate used EV transactions themselves based on battery condition.
Why are we doing this? Road vehicles represent 20% of carbon emissions globally, and have accounted for the vast majority of transportation emissions increase since 1970. Electrifying passenger vehicles, in parallel with transitioning our power grid to cleaner energy sources, really moves the needle on climate. We’re going to be a critical part of making that shift — facilitating the secondary market.
Your Work With Us:
As Head of Product at Recurrent, you’ll have the whole product (every interface, every user, every API and every piece of data) in an elaborate mental model in your head at once. Marketers, engineers, data scientists and customers will be feeding you information and trying to pull the product in different directions at the same time.
You’re the one who’ll follow connected logical threads, determine priority and find the best path forward, if it’s a problem that should be solved: (“If we make this change, that’ll cause these users to behave differently as intended, but it’ll be hard to build because of the way we implemented a related module and it may cause an unanticipated side effect in our customer support process. Let’s mock up a potential solution and rough UX to see if we solve that. I’ll pull together the right 3 people and test two solutions with our users tomorrow.”)
- Drive fast and efficient (and not always perfect) product progress in a rapidly evolving startup industry and company
- Partner with Recurrent’s cross-functional team to determine business and feature requirements and iterate whiteboard-level UX to front-end implementations and API endpoints
- Develop a tight connection with our customers, both on the B2B side and B2C, to bring insights into product prioritization and validation concepts with end users
- Concept and design features and products that will drive deep engagement with company value props and deliver a magical experience to customers
- Understand and evolve complex system that spans multiple user front ends and APIs, and pretty complicated data science/ML
- As part of Recurrent’s leadership team, help make company-level decisions in the best interests of the company, not just the product function
What We’re Looking For:
- Player/coach — you’re directly managing product and projects, while also leading and growing a small team
- Wicked smarts combined with the communication skills to not drown out other voices
- 5-10 years of software product management in a high-growth startup environment, including meaningful B2C software/web experience
- A bias for action in a collaborative and iterative environment; an ownership attitude
- Strong (and calm) at managing priorities, deadlines, tasks, and weighing trade offs.
- Strong experience in UX design for consumer and SMB users
- Domain expertise in automotive, electric vehicles, online marketplace or all of the above
