What You’ll do:
The Tax Manager is a newly created role and will manage and facilitate the accurate preparation and filing of our company’s state, federal, and foreign tax forms, including direct and indirect taxes, utilizing our external tax advisory firm. As a sole contributor, the ideal candidate is a team player who manages the external tax advisory firm to greater performance, creates and implements tax plans, spearheads research on various tax topics, and works with the finance and leadership teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and potential areas of risk. The Tax Manager will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws through building out processes that are designed to ensure accurate, timely reporting. The Tax Manager will monitor current and upcoming changes to tax regulation and analyze the impact to the organization, together with our external tax advisory firm. The ideal candidate focuses on ensuring compliance efficiently.
- Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of Company federal, state, foreign, and local tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
- Act as internal central point of contact for all taxes imposed on the company, including income tax, payroll tax, franchise tax, SUT, property tax, CAT and other revenue-based taxes, and etc.
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
- Identify tax processes that can be brought back internal from the external tax team in order to reduce costs and ensure cohesive processes.
- Build out the Tax Manager role to centralize all tax processes, establishing this role as the centralized point of contact for all tax topics.
- Manage services of the external tax advisory firm as they prepare the Company’s tax filings, as well as regular tax provision analyses.
- Plan for and develop overall provision and return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the external tax team.
- Act as the key point of contact for the audit of all tax topics by our external audit firm.
- Develop and maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
- Manage and facilitate any tax audits as needed: preparing responses, creating schedules, coordinating with our external tax advisory firm, and etc.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and coordinate with the external tax team to develop strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
- Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects.
- Prepare data and analyses as required by the external tax advisory firm.
- Review tax provisions and returns and other tax projections.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Deep corporate tax knowledge, including direct and indirect taxes
- Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
- Familiarity with US federal, state and local reporting requirements
- Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to develop internal processes and drive process improvements
- Strong project management skills to organize and prioritize individual tasks and the tasks of the external tax advisory firm to meet required timelines
- Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with leaders and the external tax advisory firm
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Strong skills and experience with large data sets and complex Excel functions
Nice to Haves:
- MBA or advanced degree preferred
- Current CPA license preferred
- Previous experience with foreign tax requirements a plus
- Familiarity with NetSuite a plus
- IPO experience a plus
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 7+ years of experience in a relevant Tax role
- 5+ years of experience in Tax at a public accounting firm
- CPA license required.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $146,00- $205,000 The base salary range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s skills, experience and other qualifications.
This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off.
