Role Description

We are looking for an experienced Controller who thrives on questioning traditional approaches, uncovering novel solutions to challenges, possess a growth mindset and can perform effectively in a fast-paced setting. The successful candidate will maintain and produce management reporting, payroll reports, internal controls and generally upscale and improve accounting processes and procedures. Job requirements

Responsibilities

  • Full-cycle month-end accounting including review of journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance sheet reconciliations, P&Ls and reporting.
  • Review the work of the bookkeepers and accountants to ensure monthly close is accurate.
  • Uphold and implement a well-documented system of accounting best practices, policies and procedures that comply with procedures that comply with provincial and federal corporate tax requirements.
  • Assist with regular audits, including customer, government and year-end financial assessments.
  • Ensure prompt payment of accounts payable and the efficient consistent collection of receivable.
  • Execute the precise and appropriate processing of Payroll for nearly 80 employees.
  • Establish a system of controls for accounting transactions and provide support for new systems or implementations as required.
  • Deliver financial statements promptly and prepare and present financial reports to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to leverage Canadian Government grants and utilize it back into the business.
  • Establish procedures to maintain compliance with all banking covenants.
  • Analyze deviations from the budget and communicate notable concerns to management.
  • Implement a system for generating management cost reports.
  • Strong sense of ownership, the inclination for action, urgency and drive.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in business, commerce or a related field is required.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • 5+ years experience in a management accounting role.
  • Experienced in identifying and implementing accounting improvements.
  • Considerable knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to best accounting practices
  • Proven results in tax compliance, budgeting, forecasting, operational planning, performance management, and quarterly reporting.
  • Experience in treasury specifically; balance sheet strategy, capital management, funds transfer, pricing, cash flow forecasting, and working capital management.
  • Adept at analysis and data-driven thinking, you can rely on quantitative and qualitative data and feedback to make well informed decisions, recognize patterns and formulate action plans.
  • Possess self-awareness and you recognize when to seek assistance or raise concerns, and you are the type of individual who can learn from errors and quickly change and adapt.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, solve ambiguous problems and think in an innovative manner.
  • Previous experience in a technology or startup company during a period of innovation and rapid expansion.
  • Driven to progress in your career; a life long learner who seeks out continuous learning opportunities.
  • Background in Canadian Tax and international tax experience is preferred.
