About You and this Role
Liferay seeks to expand its ability to empower, inspire, and influence hobbyist and professional developers by writing exceptionally accessible documentation and tutorials. To support this effort, Liferay seeks motivated, independent, and servant hearted Technical Writers to participate in organizing, writing, and revising product documentation.
Technical Writers work directly with the Sr. Documentation Project Lead to assess existing documentation content and structure, write or re-write documentation for publication, and are expected to participate in tactical decision making. The ideal candidate has a love for technology, is motivated, independent, servant hearted, detail oriented, has a passion for effective communication, and has a flexible work style that can adapt to changing conditions. This role collaborates with other Technical Writers and with relevant Product Team members; Including but not limited to Product Managers and Development Leads.
Key Objectives
- Plan, implement, and develop technical documentation for Liferay in direct collaboration with Senior Documentation Project Leads.
- Write new documentation for new and regularly updated Liferay products
- Write developer tutorials that empower developers to quickly see the value and power of Liferay development
- Revise existing documentation to meet standards for brevity, clarity, and overall cohesion
- Plan and write new documentation with development teams
- Engage with managers, developers, and community to better understand documentation needs
Required Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written command of the English language, with an emphasis on brevity, clarity, and cohesion
- Ability to read and understand source code written in Java and/or JavaScript
- Working knowledge of of the tools used in Liferay’s writing and publication process: Markdown, Git, GitHub
- Experience working in collaboration with software engineers on a regular basis
- Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with JAVA or JavaScript development
- Experience working in a UNIX environment
