Location

This role can work remotely from anywhere in the USA. You must be legally authorized to work in the US.  Bixal does not provide visa sponsorship.

What will you do?

The Communications Lead oversees all communications efforts on the KDLT contract. The Lead is responsible for ensuring the proper budgeting and scoping of communications projects and will oversee KDLT communications staff and their work. The Lead will ensure staff are briefed on projects and complete work according to appropriate timelines. The Lead will work closely with the Strategic Communications Advisor, who will advise on budgeting, client and team management, and communications efforts on ResilienceLinks and Agrilinks. The Lead will provide strategic and digital solution consulting to internal and external clients of KDLT bringing the best technical practices and approaches to bear for desired outcomes and budgets. The Lead will work closely with KDLT management and the Strategic Communications Practice Area to ensure staff growth and accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Act as project supervisor for KDLT communications staff
  • Define communications project objectives, scope and deliverables
  • Build communications team culture, including psychological safety and an environmental of learning and improvement
  • Train and onboard staff as needed
  • Project manage communications staff and activities, liaise with clients and ensure high quality and on-time deliverables
  • Create budgets for communications activities, working with buy-in leads, the contract management team, and the Bixal practice area to ensure budget aligns with funds and staff availability
  • Work with practice area management and KDLT management to ensure proper staffing for projects and to keep allocations updated
  • Update KDLT leadership on budgets and work with KDLT leadership to ensure budget alignment
  • Develop new processes as needed to support the communications team
  • Ideate products with clients and communications team
  • Create and manage communication strategies
  • Serve as client-facing point of contact on activities as needed
  • Ensure products meet appropriate branding standards
  • Contribute creative ideas to the team for campaigns and promotion
  • Support communications staff on web projects as needed, liaising with the Strategic Communications Advisor
  • Participate in client events and forums to positively represent the organization and develop and maintain relationships with the industry.
  • As appropriate, play an active role in new client acquisition by supporting business development initiatives to enhance and grow Bixal’s business in each of the areas that it works.

Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of digital communications including:
  • Knowledge of 508 compliance
  • Knowledge of web design principles
  • Knowledge of general UX principles
  • Ability to manage and supervise project communications staff
  • Project management skills
  • Project scoping skills
  • Experience and knowledge of creating communications strategies and dissemination plans
  • Knowledge of design and video concepts
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge of AP style guidelines
  • Ability to write in various tones, such as in plain language and for social media
  • Excellent client communication and relationship skills
  • Experience creating newsletters
  • Knowledge of designing for the user
  • Consulting mindset and excellent client experience/service skillset
  • Upbeat attitude and ability to work well with others
  • Adaptive to changing needs and requests
  • Bachelors Degree with 7 years of experience, or 5 years of experience with a Master’s degree
