The Director, Global Payroll will lead and develop the global payroll delivery team to optimize and process payroll across numerous countries. Reporting directly to the VP, Accounting Operations, we are looking for a forward-thinking individual who will drive change by partnering with our key stakeholders and leveraging available technologies, including Workday HR and ADP Payroll Suites, to transform and streamline our processes. This role will also be responsible for registering and setting up payroll in new jurisdictions as we continue our international expand, while being accountable for accurate payroll processing and ensuring SOX and internal audit compliance. This leader will ensure that payroll is processed accurately, efficiently, and timely and will ensure compliance with all country, federal, state, and local payroll and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of the Company’s payroll in 15+ countries in accordance with global policies and procedures along with all legislative compliance requirements (including tax and labor laws).
- Manage setup of payroll for newly established entities and support expansion to new regions
- Provide prompt, friendly, and efficient customer service to employees and ensure payroll issues are escalated and resolved with root cause analysis and corrective action recommendation.
- Motivate and develop high functioning global payroll team
- Transform key payroll processes using current tools identifying ways to optimize the payroll function and enable business process transformation.
- Direct and audit payroll procedures to include earnings, garnishments, tax withholding, and absence processing.
- Partner and collaborate with Human Resources on various aspects, including onboarding new hires, terminations, and other changes impacting payroll.
- Collaborate with the Tax function on all payroll tax related matters and with General Accounting related to month-end close process.
- Work together with Stock Administration and Legal on equity-based activity (e.g., stock options, RSUs, ESPP) and compliance with statutory reporting.
- Perform and monitor internal controls related to payroll to comply with SOX and recommend improvements to optimize processes.
- Oversee workload and processing structure of department to maximize efficiency and prioritize in accordance with operational requirements/deadlines.
- Identifies and coordinates changes in policy and procedures governed by federal, state, and local laws that affect the global payroll function.
- Responsible for compliance with filing periodic returns and issuing W-2 and similar forms.
- Maintain confidentiality of any payroll, private employee information and any proprietary information and ensures payroll information is secure.
Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, or other business-related field preferred.
- Certified Payroll Professionals (CPP) designation preferred
- Minimum of 10 years payroll management experience in a large, public, global organization (multi-national, multi-state, and multi-sites)
- Global expansion and setup experience required and M&A integration experience a plus.
- Technical Knowledge – Global tax withholding and reporting regulations, payroll tax accounting.
- Experience with Workday and ADP Workforce Now and Global Streamline very highly preferred.
- Experience transforming payroll processes including leveraging finance business process outsourcing.
- Strong leadership skills balanced with a willingness to play a ‘hands-on’ role.
- Demonstrated drive for excellence in operational support and customer service.
- Change management experience and ability to facilitate change.
Compensation:
Alteryx is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent compensation. Final compensation will be determined by various factors such as your relevant work experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location.
The salary range for this role in Southern California, Colorado, Washington, and Rhode Island is $154,200 – $269,900.
The salary range for this role in New York City and Northern California is $168,100 – $294,200.
In addition, you may be eligible for additional compensation, such as a bonus and stock grants. Employees may also be eligible for a wide range of other benefits, including medical, retirement, financial, wellness, time off, employee discounts, and others.
