The Assistant Controller is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely preparation and reporting of financial statements, as well as managing day-to-day financial operations. This role plays a crucial role in the overall financial management of the organization and will work closely with the Controller and other members of the finance and accounting team.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and reconcile any discrepancies
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, local, state, and federal regulations
- Oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns
- Lead the annual audit process, working with external auditors to complete the process efficiently
- Participate in the budgeting process, including preparation of budget reports and analysis of budget variances
- Evaluate and implement new accounting procedures and systems to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting
- Mentor and train accounting staff, providing guidance and support to ensure professional development
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar
- CPA or MBA is a plus
