Ecolab helps make the world cleaner, safer and healthier – protecting people and vital resources.
traceless materials GmbH was founded in 2020 in Hamburg, Germany, as a circular bioeconomy scale-up focused on producing a new class of biomaterials designed to replace plastics at scale and achieve a net-zero, circular materials industry. Our patented process transforms agricultural residues into traceless® materials that are biobased, plastic-free, home-compostable, and climate-friendly. We are committed to solving global plastic pollution and fostering sustainability by providing natural alternatives to both conventional plastics and bioplastics.
Our vision is a world where the materials we use positively impact the planet by making pollution and waste a thing of the past. With this goal, we have grown to a team of around 100 people with diverse expertise, and we are currently building our first large-scale production facility in Hamburg, targeting commercial market entry by the end of 2025.
Our biomaterial product is focused on single-use packaging and products with low to medium performance requirements, as well as applications in adhesives and paper coatings where plastic pollution is significant. By engineering materials that are 100% plant-based, plastic-free, and garden-compostable, we ensure that our materials naturally integrate into biological cycles without leaving any trace.
Backed by a strong consortium of investors and supported by EU and German federal government funding, including a €36.6 million financing round and a €5 million grant for scaling production, traceless materials GmbH is positioned for impactful growth. We have also been recognized with prestigious awards such as the German Start-up Award and the German Sustainability Award for our innovative contributions.
Our team combines expertise spanning process technology, materials science, engineering, business development, and marketing, united by a common mission to make an ecological impact through uncompromising sustainability. We aim to produce one million tons of traceless material by 2030 by scaling up production from a current demonstration plant to industrial-scale volumes.
We see our biomaterials as a compelling alternative to plastics in areas where reuse and recycling are not sustainable or technically feasible, contributing significantly to a circular economy and climate-friendly material production.
